If you’re still sitting on this year’s apple harvest and not sure what to do with your remaining granny smith apples, apple fritters is the way to go. Warming on a chilly autumn day or energizing you after a hard day at work, these apple fritters can be made with minimum fuss.

Prepare Dutch Oven and Frosting

Fill a large dutch oven with 1 1/2 inches of oil and heat to 350°F. Then, in a large mixing bowl, mix granulated sugar with half a teaspoon of pie spice before setting aside.

Mix the Batter

In another large bowl, whisk together baking powder, brown sugar, flour, salt, and another half a teaspoon of pie spice. In a separate bowl, whisk together vanilla, egg, and cider. Then mix both bowls together to form the batter mix.

Prepare Apple

Peel and core a granny smith apple. Grate on half of it and cut the remaining half into 1/4 pieces. Then gently fold these apple strips into the batter.

Make Fritters

Add two tablespoons of batter into the oil at a time and fry for 2-4 minutes, turning once. When they have turned golden brown, take them out and add two more tablespoons of batter.

Frosting

When the warm fritters are ready, toss them in the frosting sugar-spice mixture and then they’re ready to serve.
