Don’t get us wrong—we have nothing against cream cheese and salmon. For centuries, the combo has served as the go-to of latke toppings (followed only by the slightly more controversial applesauce…) and it is nothing short of delicious. But who’s to say you can’t get a little creative when it comes to dressing your latkes this Hanukkah?

Fresh and Friendly

If you’re looking to step out the box, but still want to play it fairly safe, this is a good place to start. Shmear on some Greek yogurt, top with sliced cucumber, fresh dill, and salt and pepper.

Pesto Princess

Pesto is another familiar flavor that has tons of range. Mix it up with a little bit of mayo and spread it on the latke before topping with fresh rocket.

Some Like It Hot

Latkes and horseradish are old friends, so up the ante with a bit of wasabi. Begin by spreading some crème fraîche, add sliced radishes, a dollop of wasabi, and some sea salt. Be warned—it’s spicy!

The Apple Update

If applesauce makes you think of baby food, you may like this take a bit better. Top your latke with some Brie cheese, a slice of apple, and a drizzle of honey. We love the combination of textures and salty and sweet flavors.
