]]>Here are three of Mexico’s favorite candies and three of my personal favorites from this vibrant territory.
One of Mexico’s favorite foods is the tamarind, a legume whose pulp is used to make all kinds of sweet treats. Pulparindo is made with tamarind pulp, salt, and sugar, and is then coated with chili powder to make a simultaneously sweet and spicy delight.
Mexico is a country that loves nuts, and this love is put on perfect display with this candy. Almon Ris consists of a hard caramel center which is coated with chocolate and pieces of peanuts. It’s a classic candy that most everyone knows and loves.
Mazapan is a common sweet in Spanish-speaking countries, and it’s usually an almond-based confection. However, in Mexico, the most common version is made with peanuts along with powdered sugar. It makes a sickeningly-sweet treat that sugar lovers will adore.
