]]>Stewart starts off by boiling five medium-sized red potatoes until they are easily pierced with a knife. After they cool off a bit, she peels them and cuts them into quarter-inch slices. Then comes the trick.
Stewart combines one white onion (grated), 2/3 cup of cold water, ½ cup of white vinegar, ½ teaspoon of salt, and 1 teaspoon of sugar. She then pours the mixture over the warm potatoes and gently tosses them.
According to Stewart, the potatoes will soak up all the liquid in 10 minutes, resulting in a tangy kick to the potato salad.
Finally, Stewart adds a cup of mayonnaise and the potato salad is good to go.
“This much-loved family recipe uses steamed potatoes in a creamy dressing. While they’re still warm, the potatoes are peeled, sliced, and tossed with white vinegar, which gives this delicious side dish a tang,” Stewart shared in the caption of the video.
