By combining a creamy, filling pasta with some succulent chicken, the Chicken Alfredo does a great job at creating a burst of flavor that your entire family can enjoy, no matter how picky some of their tastes are. Here’s your guide to cooking up the perfect family-friendly Chicken Alfredo bake.

Ingredients:

  • 1 pound boneless chicken breasts
  • 1 pound penne
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 4 tablespoons butter
  • Salt
  • Ground black pepper
  • 2 cloves garlic
  • 3 cups half and half
  • 1 cup shredded Mozzarella
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan
  • 1/4 cup chopped parsley
  • 4 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil

Instructions:

  1. Cook the penne according to the package’s instructions in a large pot until al dente. Drain when complete.
  2. Preheat oven to 350°.
  3. Pour oil into a large skillet and boil over medium heat. Season both sides of the chicken with salt, pepper, and Italian seasoning. Put the chicken in the skillet and cook for about 8 minutes per side, or until cooked through. Allow chicken to cool for 5 minutes before slicing crosswise.
  4. Return the skillet to the medium heat and throw in butter. Add garlic and cook for 30 seconds. Pour flour and cook for 1 more minute before adding the half-and-half, whisking constantly. Sprinkle Parmesan into the skillet and allow to simmer until sauce thickens before adding more salt and pepper.
  5. Combine pasta, chicken, and alfredo sauce in a large bowl. Pour into a baking dish and bake for about 15 minutes, until cheese is melted. Garnish with parsley.

Pasta is an incredibly versatile food consumed all over the world. But with so many different shapes and textures to choose from, it can be tough to know which pasta shape to use for each type of sauce. Not all pastas are created equal and some pair better with certain sauces than others. The texture and shape of a particular pasta as well as the consistency of a sauce are all important factors to consider. If you’re looking to up your pasta game, here are some tips on how to pair your pasta with the perfect sauce every time.

Tomato Sauces

For sauces like marinara, Pomodoro, or arrabbiata, you want to choose pasta with ridges or nooks and crannies that will help hold onto the sauce. Shapes like penne, fusilli, or rigatoni will catch chunks of tomato and bits of garlic and herbs, making sure every bite is bursting with flavor.

Cream Sauces

For cream-based sauces like alfredo or carbonara, long, ribbon-like pasta are the gold standard. The smooth surface of pasta like fettuccine, linguine, or pappardelle creates space for the sauce to coat every strand, ensuring you end up with a creamy, decadent dish.

Oil-Based Sauces

Choose a light pasta for oil-based sauces, such as aglio e olio or pesto. Thin strands of angel hair or spaghetti will allow the flavors of the olive oil, garlic, and herbs to shine through without overwhelming the dish.
