Healthier alternatives to refined sugar are experiencing a huge boom in the past few years. In addition to stevia and Splenda, you can also use dates to make your desserts naturally sweeter. If you’re not sure how to do it, here are some of the best ways to put this natural sweetener to some good use.

Raw Dates

If you have raw dates and aren’t sure what to do with them, using them as they are is always an option. They’re often added to raw-style desserts to make them sweeter, but using them blended as an add-in in your smoothies and salad dressings is also an option.

Date Paste

Date paste is a pretty popular replacement for sugar, and you can easily make it on your own. Simply blend pitted dates with some water and use them when making desserts that call for sugar by replacing one cup of sugar with one cup of this natural sweetener.

Date Sugar

Making your own date paste is all fun and games, but it’s also possible to save yourself some time and buy date-based sweeteners at natural food stores. Date sugar is one of the most popular alternatives, but you should avoid using it in hot liquids and baked goods because it doesn’t dissolve quickly.

Date syrup is an awesome vegan substitute for sugar and sweeteners when you’re baking, but it also just tastes so darn good on bread, fruit, and more. Making it is super simple and it’s a great way to sweeten your life naturally.

Ingredients

  • Neutral oil
  • 1 pound of dates
  • 4 cups of water

Recipe

  1. Use the oil to grease some scissors or kitchen sheers so when you cut up the dates they won’t stick so much.
  2. Pit the dates and use the scissors or shears to cut them into small pieces. You can use a knife, but cutting them is easier.
  3. Pour the water in a medium pot and put in the dates as well. Simmer them together over medium heat for 30 minutes stirring a few times throughout.
  4. Turn off the heat and let it sit for 30 minutes.
  5. Pour everything into a blender and blend until really smooth, 1-2 minutes.
  6. Use a few layers of cheesecloth to line a fine-mesh sieve, pour the puree into it, and strain into a bowl.
  7. Taste the syrup, and if you’re happy, store right away. If you want it thicker or sweeter, return it to the stove for 20-30 minutes, cool, and then store for up to 3 weeks in the fridge!

Homemade date syrup 😍. . . Rich in fiber, iron and calcium. Just sharing the recipe here as few of my friends @dine_with_danika and @foodie_singh_kour wanted me to share the recipe. Here you girls πŸ€— and All you need for this syrup are just dates and water. . . 1. Bring the water to a rolling boil and in the meanwhile chop the dates roughly and add them to the boiling water and switch off the stove. . 2. Let it sit uncovered for 2-3 hours as it helps softening the dates and extracting the juice out of it. . 3. Strain the dates with the help of muslin cloth and squeeze out the juice as much as you can by loosening it multiple times and squeeze again. . 4. Transfer the liquid to a thick bottomed pan and on low to medium heat bring to a rolling boil. This may take around 30-45 min. . 5. Now lower the flame and dip a spoon into the syrup and lift it, the dripping should be slow like honey, then it’s reached, switch off the stove & let it cool to room temp. . 6. Then transfer the syrup to airtight glass container(make sure there’s no moisture) and store it up to 2 weeks in room temp and up to 3 months in refrigerator. . . #thefeedfeed #homemade #homemadedatesyrup #datessyrup #dates #sweetener #ramadan #mycurryveda #mycurryvedabyshravani #food #foodie #foodiesofinstagram #eeeeeats #foodphotography #foodstyling #foodfluffer #gloobyfood #wahhindia #yesindia #indianfood #indianfoodbloggers #fbci #livingfoodz #ndtvfood

There is a lot of talk about whether sugar is really bad for you. Whatever your body tells you is probably best for you, but there are a lot of different ways to get sugar that go beyond just the white stuff you buy at the grocery store. If you want different kinds of sugar in your life, here is a good list to try!

Bananas

Bananas are naturally really sweet and add a nice sweetness to a lot of different baked goods in place of sugar. You can mash it up and make it into pancake, sweeten up your oatmeal, cakes, and more!

Dates

Dried fruit is always sweeter than regular fruit, and dates are especially sweet in a really interesting way. They actually take on a caramel-like flavor, so it’s perfect to pulse them in a food processor and add them in place of caramel or brown sugar.

Honey

Although some people say honey is broken down in the same way white sugar is, the difference is that the taste is a lot richer, and it also has a ton of vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants, whereas white sugar doesn’t have any redeeming qualities besides sweetness.
