When you think of international cuisine, what do you think of? For most of us, the first countries that come to mind are places like China, Italy, and France, whose cuisines are known and beloved on a worldwide scale.

However, the planet has a huge variety of countries whose culinary scenes deserve to have much more attention. Here are three of them, places that definitely deserve to be explored on a culinary level.

Ecuador

Ecuador, situated in South America on the equator and containing a Pacific coastline as well as a section of the Andes Mountains, has a cuisine that is as varied and as interesting as its terrain. Coastal seafood dishes such as encebollado and more inland dishes like goat stew and roasted pig all deserve to be savored.

Ethiopia

Some of the best food from Africa comes from one of the continent’s heartlands in Ethiopia. The Ethiopian style of eating highly spiced veggies with injera bread, a spongy material made with teff flour, is both fun and delicious.

Philippines

Did you ever think that you’d come across a food that seamlessly blends Spanish traditions with Southeast Asian tropical ingredients? Well, Filipino cuisine does just that, presenting some of the most exciting and varied dishes that you will find anywhere on the planet.

Have you ever heard of or tried a fast-food restaurant chain called “Jollibee” before?

After starting off in 1975 as a small fast food chain in Quezon City in the Philippines, this fast food joint has gone international and introduced parts of Filipino food to a worldwide audience.

Filipino food is an amalgamation of influences from all over the globe. The Philippines spent thousands of years as a relatively untouched group of islands in Southeast Asia before being occupied by Spain, the United States, and Japan in the 19th and 20th centuries.

The country gained its definitive independence in 1945, but the Spanish, American, and Japanese rules left their mark on the islands and on its cuisine. This fusion is reflected now on Jollibee’s menu.

One of the most popular items on its menu is ChickenJoy, which is the Filipino version of fried chicken. Served with a delicious gravy, this menu item might be the biggest hit at the chain.

A unique main dish offered by Jollibee is its “Jolly Spaghetti,” a crazy mish-mash of pasta, tomato sauce, and diced hot dogs. Looking for a unique dessert? Look no further than the famous Halo-Halo, which consists of ice cream, beans, flan, and fruit jelly.

Jollibee now has outputs across Asia, North America, Europe, and the Middle East, so be sure to give it a try if you have the chance.
