Belcanto is one of the best restaurants in Portugal that you definitely need to visit when you’re in this beautiful southern European country. It’s located in one of the prettiest parts of Lisbon, on São Carlos square in neighborhood Chiado. The restaurant is run by chef José Avillez who received two Michelin stars for it — one in 2012 and another in 2014. This made Belcanto the first restaurant in Lisbon with two Michelin stars.

The restaurant offers à la carte menu and two degustation menus. “At Belcanto, José Avillez offers a unique gastronomic and sensory journey — contemporary Portuguese cuisine in a sophisticated setting that takes us on a journey in time, from Chiado’s old romantic past to the future,” the restaurant’s website reads.

You can spend a unique night at Belcanto enjoying a unique degustation menu enriched with wine selection by sommelier Nádia Desidério as you’re watching the teamwork at a Chef’s Table.

You won’t struggle to find a place to taste some vegan treats while in Lisbon, but none of the restaurants compare to Ao 26. It’s a huge hit with locals and travelers alike, and you’ll know why everyone loves it so much after checking out its menu.

Ao 26 Vegan Food Project is located in the very heart of Lisbon’s Bairro Alto neighborhood, and you won’t have any trouble finding it since it’s in close proximity to some of the city’s top tourist attractions.

You can opt between some of the essentials you would want at every vegan restaurant, including burgers and toasts, and it’s obvious how much love has been put into them as soon as they reach your table.

The list of dessert choices include vegan cheesecake, chocolate cake, brownies, and more, and they taste so good you’ll forget they’re vegan in the first place. Many guests visiting Ao 26 tend to opt for the chef’s choice, which usually includes a soup and a tasty main course.

Portugal is heaven for everyone who loves food. Everything is fresh, tasty and unique. The country is best known for its amazing seafood, together with warm pastries. We wanted to share the best foods in Lisbon which you have to try next time you visit.

Pasteis De Nata

This is one of those traditional foods in Lisbon which you can find everywhere. It all started way back in the day when monks wanted to find a useful way to use the egg yolks they had left after using the whites for other purposes.

Bacalhau A Bras

If you are huge on seafood, Lisbon is the right place to be. Bacalhau a bras is made with dried codfish, mixed with potatoes, eggs, and more. You can find it in numerous restaurants and it’s definitely a must.

Bifana

Bifana is officially one of the best foods in Lisbon. It’s a very simple dish, a sandwich with pork meat. The thing is that you can’t even imagine how tasty it is.

I wanted to try the Porto famous “bifana”, this pork meat sandwich with a hot sauce. So I started looking online for the best place to do it. Everywhere you look, the answer is Conga, that is entitled as the house of bifanas. I went there and ordered it. I must say it was good, but I didn’t think it was outstanding. And watch out for the sauce, if you are not used to eat spicy things! But I kept wondering if there was another place where I could get it. That’s when, asking around to Portuguese people, I got the name of a small place called “O Astro”, near Campanhã station. I thought their bifana was much tastier than the Conga one. So if you’re around, you should definitely try one. Both are really cheap, less than €2 per sandwich, so you can have 2 or 3, or a potato and cabbage soup called “caldo verde”, that may calm your tongue after the spice! 🔥 . 🔥

Azeitao Cheese

The name comes from the town of Azeitao, located close to Lisbon. The craziest thing is that it is only produced there. That is why you should not miss the oporunity to taste it, especially if you are a cheese fan.
