Milkshakes are one of our favorite ice cream treats. Made from a base of milk and ice cream, this dairy-centric dessert allows for all kinds of flavor variations to suit the preferences of whoever will be drinking it.

Looking for ideas to make milkshakes that go beyond the traditional chocolate and vanilla flavors? Here are three great ingredients to try.

Oreo Cookies

The world’s favorite cookie to drink in milk, unsurprisingly, also goes great when incorporated into milkshakes. The chocolate cookie breaks into small chunks that spread throughout the milkshake, imbuing the dessert with a crispy, chocolately essence that you’ll love.

Fresh Strawberries

One of our favorite milkshake combinations is fresh strawberries with vanilla ice cream. Evoking the classic strawberries and cream dessert, the sweetness and slightly tangy flavor of strawberries blends perfectly inside of a milkshake.

Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups

According to a recent survey, Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups are the favorite candy of 38% of Americans. It’s no surprise, then, that this peanut butter and chocolate candy also goes great inside of a milkshake. You can make it with chocolate or vanilla ice cream, depending on whether you want a chocolate-heavy or a more peanut-butter focused treat.

Do you like matcha (or green tea) and milkshakes? If so, I think I have the perfect recipe for you.

Matcha powder is essentially a concentrated form of the leaves used to make green tea. It has excellent health benefits, including a chockload of healthy antioxidants.

It can be combined with ice cream and milk to make a delicious milkshake that tastes delicious and raises your body’s defenses.

Here’s how to make your own matcha milkshake.

Ingredients

  • 200 g vanilla bean ice cream
  • ½ cup whole or semi-skim milk (not skim!)
  • 1 tablespoon green tea matcha powder
  • 2 teaspoons honey

Instructions

Start off by pulling out your blender. You’ll want to be sure to plug it in and have it ready in order to blend your milkshake together.

The next step is to remove 200 g of vanilla bean ice cream from the container and place it inside of the blender. Your milkshake will blend easier if you leave it sitting out for a few minutes so that it softens slightly.

Next, add the milk, the matcha powder, and the honey to the blender. Place the lid on top of the container and blend on high for 20-30 seconds.

That’s it! Your matcha milkshake is ready to enjoy. That was easy, wasn’t it?
