We didn’t manage to get to Sicily for the summer, but that doesn’t mean we can’t eat like a local! Aside from pasta with sardines and deep-fried arancini balls (which we definitely won’t say no to), this orange Bundt cake is quintessentially Sicilian. Have it with an espresso and dream of the Mediterranean Sea!

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons grated orange zest
  • 1 ¼ cups fresh orange juice (from 3 oranges)
  • 1 ½ tablespoons baking powder
  • 1 ½ cups granulated sugar
  • ½ cup vegetable oil, plus more for greasing
  • 3 large eggs

Instructions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F.
  2. Stir together the flour, orange zest, and baking powder in a medium bowl, and set aside.
  3. Beat the sugar, vegetable oil, and eggs with an electric mixer on high speed until almost white (around 1 minute and 30 seconds). Add in the orange juice and beat on low speed until combined. With the mixer running on low speed, gradually add the flour mixture. Beat for about 1 minute, until just combined, but be careful to not overmix.
  4. Transfer the batter to a Bundt cake tin that has been greased with vegetable oil. Bake for 40-45 minutes, until a wooden toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Let the cake cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then invert it onto a wire rack and let it cool completely for about 1 hour.

Since spring is officially here, we wanted to help you freshen up with the best tea ever. Roll up your sleeves and you can make this orange blossom mint tea and enjoy it for days.

Ingredients

To prepare this recipe you need:
1 cup sugar
2 tablespoons orange blossom water
20 cups water
1 cup fresh mint
1 large navel orange

Instead of the orange blossom water, you can use 1-1/2 to 2-1/2 teaspoons orange extract. Of course, the best option is orange blossom water.

For decorating use fresh slices orange and mint leaves.

Instructions

To prepare the orange blossom mint tea, you should put your slow cooker into action. Fill it with the mint leaves and water. Let them cook together on high heat for 6 hours. When the time is up, remove the mint leaves and strain the liquid.

Add in the sugar and mix the drink until you can’t see the sugar anymore. Squeeze the orange in the tea and also include the orange blossom water.

You can now pour the orange blossom mint tea in a large pitcher so that you can put it in the fridge. Leave it in for 6 hours.

Serve it in your favorite glasses with mint leaves and fresh orange.

We all know the saying: ‘an apple a day keeps the doctor away,’ but this sentence could alo be said about oranges. With all the antioxidants and nutrients inside the orange, it is safe to say that oranges are as healthy, if not even more than apples.

Oranges keep you healthy with a good amount of fiber, vitamin C, folate, thiamine, and potassium. They are low in calories but keep in mind that orange juice is higher in sugar and calories and are lower in fiber than raw oranges.

Being high in antioxidants, oranges also enhances immunity, help fighting cancer, improves the heart health and brain function and keeps the skin healthy.

Different Varieties of Oranges

There are different types of oranges, which all fall under the same family. Navel oranges, clementines, blood oranges, Seville oranges, Valencia oranges and more. They all fall into one of three categories: sweet, bitter and mandarins.

Oranges vs. Apples

When comparing the nutritional content of apples and oranges, we can see that oranges are lower in calories and fiber and are higher in vitamins. Apples are also rich in antioxidants and they both bring a unique set of nutrients and health benefits.
