Are you thinking of creative new ways to provide your family with a scrumptious yet nutritious meal at lunch or dinner time? Well, then you’re in luck. These Philly Cheesesteak lettuce wraps are an intriguing twist on Philadelphia’s signature dish, proving delicious, nutritious, and filling.

Ingredients:

  • 1 pound skirt steak, thinly sliced
  • 1 cup shredded provolone
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 2 large bell peppers
  • 1 large onion, sliced
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 tablespoon chopped parsley
  • 8 large lettuce leaves
  • Salt
  • Ground black pepper

Instruction:

  1. Pour the vegetable oil into a large skillet and cook over medium heat. Add bell peppers and onion to the pan before flavoring with oregano, pepper, and salt. Cook the vegetables for about 10 minutes, continuing to stir, before removing the onions and peppers. Leave the oil in the skillet and continue heating.
  2. Place steak into the skillet, seasoning with salt and pepper according to your preference. Allow the steak to cook on one side until seared before flipping onto the other. It should take around 2 minutes for each side. If still underdone, repeat the process for another 2 minutes per side.
  3. Toss the onions back into the skillet and combine with the steak. Sprinkle provolone onto the steak and then place a tight-fitting lid over the skillet. Leave for one minute or until the cheese is melted. Finally, remove the steak mixture and place pieces on each piece of lettuce, making a lettuce wrap.

A Philly cheesesteak is one of the most famous things the city is known for. This cheesy, meaty sandwich is a really fun way to change up lunchtime and really give yourself a treat. Although there are not many ways to make it healthier it is certainly a delicious treat.

Ingredients

The ingredients for the cheesesteak are mushrooms, onions, bell peppers, strip sirloin, provolone cheese, and a soft hoagie roll.

Instructions

  1. Put your strip loin in the freezer so it makes it easier to cut, about 30-45 minutes
  2. Carmelize onions in a pan with butter and oil. This will take probably 30-45 minutes over medium heat.
  3. Take the steak out and slice thinly
  4. Heat some oil in a pan and cook on each side for just about a minute.
  5. To make the provolone sauce, melt butter in a pan and then add some flour and whisk.
  6. Whisk in warm milk and continue until the mixture is thick. Take off the heat and add the provolone, mix, and leave to the side.
  7. Sautee mushrooms and peppers together in butter and oil until soft.
  8. To assemble the sandwich, cut a soft hoagie roll in half, but not completely so the top and bottom and still attached. Lay down the meat, then the cheese sauce, then the veggies.
