Serving size and portion size—they’re the same thing—right? Well, no. If you’re trying to lead a healthier lifestyle, it’s important to pay attention to these numbers, but they’re not the same. Serving size affects your portion size and vice versa. So, what’s the difference?

Serving Size

Serving size is a standardized amount of food and it’s written on the nutrition facts label. The label shows the amount of sugar, sodium, carbs, protein, and calories in a serving size. Serving sizes should guide you on how much to eat over the course of the day.

Portion Size

Just because a serving size is written on the food, it doesn’t mean that’s exactly what you’ll eat. Portion size is how much you should eat at once. Unlike the serving size, portion size isn’t standardized, which means you could eat more or less than a serving size. Portion size is up to you.

Converting Portion Size to Serving Size

While portion size and serving size are different, they can work together to help you get a better idea of your overall diet. Use the serving size as a goal by matching your portions of a specific food group to the recommended daily amounts.

Have you ever wondered what 5-9 servings of fruits and vegetables a day really looks like? If you want to make sure that you’re getting enough vegetables in throughout the day, you’re not alone. It can be difficult to figure out how much of every vegetable counts as one serving, but this guide will set your mind at ease and make sure your body is getting what it needs.

Celery

Celery is easy to get in for the day because you actually only need two long stalks! This can be done by snacking on them throughout the day, covering them in peanut butter or cream cheese, or using them in a mirepoix for soup.

Sweet Potato

One large sweet potato will give you your serving of veggies, but it can also be used to replace a heavy starch or carbohydrate food! Make hash browns with them in the morning or put them in a delicious curry at night and you’ll be set.

Sweet potato and arugula salad, a quick lunch idea for hurry days. Cook 4-5 sweet potatoes in boiling water for 15 minutes. (Before chop them into small pieces.) Toss the cooked sweet potatoes in a large pan with olive oil, 1/2 teaspoon salt and 1/4 teaspoon pepper and bake for 5 minutes. Stir the potatoes and continue to bake until fork-tender. In a large bowl, combine the sweet potatoes, arugula and pomengra seeds. In a small bowl, whisk olive oil with lemon juice and parmesan; season with salt and pepper. Just before serving, toss the dressing with the sweet potato and arugula mixture to coat. Enjoy! ••• Édesburis rukkola saláta, gyors összedobós ebéd rohanós napokra. Az édesburgonyát hámozàst követően kis kockákra vagom, ezzel segítve elő a gyorsabb puhulàst. Lobogó sós vízbe teszem, és 15 percig főzöm. A kifőtt kockákat serpenyőbe dobom, olívaolajjal, sóval, borssal és átforgatom. 5 percig sütöm kb, kevergetem közben. Mikor elkészült összekeverem rukkolàval és gránátalma magokkal. Egy kisebb tálban gyors öntetet készítek hozzá olívaolajból, citromléből, reszelt laktózmentes parmezán jellegű sajtból, sóval borssal ízesítem. Jó étvágyat hozzá! ••• #sweetpotato #arugula #pomengranate #salad #eathealthy #eatfresh #plantbased #plantpower #organicfood #goodfood #healthyfood #veganfoodshare #eattherainbow #eeeeeats #foodlover #delicious #foodphotography #feedfeed #foodblog #plantbaseddiet #healthydiet #veganfood #whatveganseat #eatwell #bestofvegan #mutimiteszel #mutimiteszel_fitt #fitfam #ripiszke #mutimiteszel_mentes @preview.app

Brussels Sprouts

One serving of Brussels sprouts is only 9 in total, which are really easy to get in. Either roast them in the oven with pecans until caramelized or shave them raw and use them in salads or slaws!
