]]>If you enjoy exploring different cuisines, especially those that incorporate spicy ingredients, getting used to spicy food will allow you to appreciate diverse dishes and flavors.
Some studies suggest that spicy foods, particularly those containing capsaicin (found in chili peppers), can have health benefits like boosting metabolism and reducing inflammation.
If you’re surrounded by friends or family members who are into spicy food, you might find it fun to be able to share dishes with them. Obviously, that’s not a must – but if you think you might be into it, give it a try.
Over time, exposure to spicy foods can increase your tolerance to heat. This in turn can allow you to enjoy a wider range of foods without feeling overwhelmed by spiciness.
At the end of the day, whether it’s worth it to get used to spicy food depends on individual preferences. If you’re intrigued by the flavor complexity that spicy ingredients add to dishes, then it may be worth exploring! However, don’t forget to listen to your body and not push yourself too far.

]]>If your dish ended up way up on the spicy scale, don’t throw it away. Instead, use the following tricks and tips to fix it.
The easiest way to save your dish from the hands of spiciness is to make it bigger. Simply add more of the other ingredients and let them take on the excess heat. You’ll get a pleasing dish while also not having to worry about what to make for lunch tomorrow.
Adding acidic ingredients, like lemon juice or vinegar, might help counter the spiciness. The acid will neutralize capsaicin, which is the main chemical that causes the burning sensation.
Dairy also does a great job of countering capsaicin. If you eat a spicy chili, you’d reach for a glass of milk, right? Introducing some sour cream to the dish will tame the hotness. But beware that this might not work well with all dishes.
If nothing helps, or you don’t have time for experimenting, then combining the spicy dish with some bland food usually helps. Find food that could complement it, like rice or pasta, and get yourself a feast.

For beans, tofu, veggies, and more, we love this zix-ingredient, Indian-inspired blend. Masala is a Hindi and Urdu word used to describe a mixture of ground spices.
