We all know that bacon is the hero of the breakfast world, but who says we can’t enjoy its crispy, smoky goodness all day long? These bacon-infused appetizers are total game-changers, and here are four ideas you’ll love. Let’s dive in.

Bacon-Wrapped Dates Stuffed with Cheese

This appetizer is the perfect blend of sweet, salty, and creamy. To make this appetizer stuff dates with either goat or blue cheese. This flavor combo will give a rich, tangy contrast. Wrap in crispy bacon and enjoy these bite-sized treats.

Mini Bacon Quiches

For something elegant and savory, mini quiches are the way to go. Fill mini pastry shells with an egg-based mixture of cheese, onions, and crumbled bacon. It’s perfection in every bite.

Bacon and Jalapeño Poppers

These poppers are a crowd-pleaser. Fill jalapeños halves with a creamy mixture of cheeses, then wrap in bacon for that extra oomph. Bake to perfection and enjoy.

Bacon and Avocado Bites

For a lighter yet flavorful option, these bites are a great choice. Drizzle fresh avocado chunks with lemon juice to maintain their color, and pair them with crispy bacon and cherry tomatoes. These skewered bites are a refreshing and easy-to-eat appetizer.

Are you tired of having your breakfast ruined by underwhelming pieces of bacon? Well, putting an end to that is surprisingly easy. You only need to make sure to avoid the following mistakes when cooking it.

Buying Thin Bacon

Thin bacon is a recipe for disastrous bacon. Sure, it will get crispier. However, it will also burn easily and lack flavor due to less fat.

Cooking Bacon Straight Out of the Fridge

If you slap pieces of bacon on the pan straight from the fridge, the chances are that they won’t be at their best. Due to low temperature, it will take longer to cook and might not cook evenly. Remember to take the bacon out of the fridge at least 20 minutes before cooking it so it can reach room temperature.

Putting Too Much Bacon in the Pan

Bacon strips need some breathing room when frying to evolve into its best version. If you put too many pieces at once, you’ll overcrowd the pan and cause it to either undercook or fail to get crispy enough.

Cooking in a Hot Pan on High Heat

Finally, you want to start with a cold pan and cook the bacon on low to medium heat. If you start with a hot pan and crank up the heat, the bacon will shrivel and burn the fat without melting it for added flavor.

There are plenty of ways to cook bacon and everyone has their own favorite. You may prefer a skillet, deep-fryer, or the microwave, but did you know that one of the best ways to cook bacon is in the oven?

Bacon contains plenty of fat, which is why it needs to be cooked slowly and at low temperatures. You want most of the fat to melt so that you’re left with crispy, golden bacon slices. Doing that in a skillet creates some problems. The most important one is that your bacon is cooking from below and you have to flip it in order to have somewhat even result. Also, cooking bacon on the stovetop will make it spatter all over, leaving you with a mess to clean up.

How do you cook bacon in the oven? Start with the cold oven, never preheated. Arrange the bacon slices in a pan and place it in the middle of a cold oven. Turn it on to 400F and in around 20 minutes you will have perfectly cooked bacon. Make sure to check it a few times because the cooking time will depend on the thickness of the slices.

Enjoy your perfect bacon with no mess!

It’s hard to believe, but we are almost in December! The last month of the year might be better known for holidays such as Christmas, New Year’s Eve, and Hanukkah, but there are plenty of food holidays to celebrate as well.

Here are some December food holidays that we’ll be celebrating in the upcoming month!

National Cookie Day: December 4th

National Cookie Day will be celebrated on a Wednesday this month, and my suggestion is to make a batch to take to work for a mid-week pick-me-up! National Cookie Day is a day to celebrate one of the world’s most treasured desserts.

National Maple Syrup Day: December 17th

Maple syrup is one of my favorite sweet treats. This delicious liquid, which is obtained from a fascinating process in which the sap of maple trees is painstakingly collected and refined, can be used to top breakfast favorites such as pancakes and french toast.

National Bacon Day: December 30th

If you thought that the last days of the month of December were only reserved for the excitement of the New Year, you thought wrong! National Bacon Day on December 30th is a celebration of this delicious meat that you’ll find on breakfast plates and on trendy hamburgers.

National Pear Month

Pear is a classic autumn and winter fruit, meaning that December has been designated as National Pear Month. These little beauties are delicious on their own, in desserts, or baked in the oven and topped with honey and cinnamon.

If you haven’t heard of the bacon wrap taco shell yet, be prepared to have your mind blown. Unlike the failed Taco Bell bacon taco, the bacon wrap shell taco is a step in the right direction for both the popular, tasty meat and the beloved Mexican dish.

As if the idea of a taco shell created entirely out of bacon wasn’t appetizing enough, swapping out the various mixture of meat, beans, lettuce, and tomatoes for some good old American mac and cheese should get your taste buds watering. What’s better than that? Why, a beer mac and cheese, of course!

Image by Kitchen Life of a Navy Wife / Flickr

Getting Started

To create the bacon wrap shell taco, you’ll need bacon—that’s it. Nice and simple, just a package of bacon. Brand and flavor are totally up to you.

The ingredient list for the beer mac and cheese is slightly more complex, however. To create this dish, you’ll need to get your hands on an IPA beer, Monterey Jack cheese, mozzarella cheese, cheddar cheese, heavy cream, whole milk, condensed milk, unsalted butter, Worcestershire sauce, hot sauce, a box of pasta (whichever is your favorite), and mustard.

You’ll need to dig out that slow cooker you got as a housewarming present all those years ago, too.

The Nitty Gritty

Empty the box of pasta you chose into the slow cooker. Toss in four tablespoons of the unsalted butter, a squeeze of mustard, a few dashes of both the hot sauce and the Worcestershire sauce. While you can select whatever hot sauce suits your tastes best, try to avoid Sriracha, as this particular blend overpowers the cheesy-ness of the dish.

Dairy, Dairy, Quite Contrary

Now, pour in the whole and condensed milks, the heavy cream, and half of the IPA you selected. Add all three kinds of cheese, grated, to the mix.

Once you’ve combined the ingredients in the slow cooker, it’s time to get cooking. Let the mixture cook on low for two to three hours. This will be sufficient enough time to allow the liquid ingredients to be absorbed and for the pasta to cook thoroughly.

After two to three hours, switch the slow cooker to the warm setting (or off entirely if yours doesn’t have this option), and add a 1/2 cup of cheddar cheese. No need to stir. Letting the cheese melt directly on top will give the dish a good coloring as well as a gooey layer.

Image by Roxanne Ready / Flickr

Bacon Makes The World Go Round

Here comes the tricky part. Take the bacon and literally weave it, just like a basket. Place the woven bacon sheet onto an elevated cooking area, like a wire rack, and cook it to be medium to medium-well (think 425 degrees Fahrenheit for about 15 minutes).

Once you’ve reached this point, take a bowl, place it over your bacon wrap sheet, and trace around it with a pizza cutter. Drain the bacon grease, turn off your oven, and place the shell back in to finalize cooking using leftover heat trapped inside.

After 15 to 20 minutes, remove the shell and pack it with the now-finished beer mac and cheese.

Now, enjoy! Oh, and you know how we only used half a can of that IPA? It goes great with your dinner. Drink up!

Forget about making cheese dips the regular way. This bacon cheese dip is so tasty and served in the coolest way ever.

Ingredients:

  • 8 oz cream cheese
  • 1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • 3/4 lb thick cut bacon ( cooked and cut into pieces)
  • 1/2 cup chopped green onions
  • 12 oz sour cream
  • 1 loaf of round bread
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce

Instructions:

Set the oven to 350 F degrees. Start by cooking the bacon and then grab a knife to cut it into pieces. Place them on a plate on top of a paper towel.

Combine the sour cream and cream cheese in a bowl. Mix them very well, then include the Worcestershire sauce as well.

Next, add the bacon, green onions, and cheddar cheese. Mix everything together until all the ingredients are combined.

Remove the middle part of the bread to create a hole in it. Keep the top part and make sure that the bottom is also whole.

Keep the bread that you took out from the middle and store it on the side.

Fill the inside of the loaf with the bacon cheese dip mix and cover it with aluminum foil. Bake it in the oven for 45 minutes. Take out the foil, bake again for 5 more minutes.

Serve it with the pieces of bread on the side.

Bacon is delicious, but you’re not a true fan of it if you don’t know these facts.

It Makes Everything Taste Better

Bacon is basically made of fat and salt, and these two ingredients have the magical ability to enhance any food. That’s why bacon or even bacon flavoring is added to so many foods we can’t keep track.

https://www.instagram.com/p/BwmoSzJFFKR/

It’s Over 4,000 Years Old

But what we call “bacon” has changed over time. As far as 4,000 years ago, the Chinese used pork curing techniques in order to preserve meat and all pork was referred to as “bacon.”

It’s Not That Unhealhty

While it would be a stretch to say that bacon is healthy, it’s certainly better than many other choices you may make on a daily basis. You’ll be just fine if you eat two average strips of fried bacon with an egg once per week for breakfast.

Bacon fat is one of those things you shouldn’t throw right away. It has so many great uses in the kitchen, you’ll be surprised. So many different meals can be prepared with it, all you need is extra imagination.

Popcorn Will Taste Much Better

If you have some leftover bacon fat, you should definitely spice up your popcorn with it. All you need to do is to melt the fat in a pot and once it’s heated add the popcorn kernels.

Cook Pancakes

Instead of cooking the pancakes in your regular oil of choice you can use the bacon fat you have in the fridge. It’s such a great flavor, especially if you plan on having them with bacon in the morning.

Cook the Veggies

Next time you’re preparing veggies, skip the olive or coconut oil. This fat will literally upgrade the way your favorite vegetables taste. It’s an amazing idea for people who are obsessed with bacon but are not huge on veggies.

Add to Soups

Every single soup can become much more delicious if you add just a tiny bit of the fat you have left. Why not use it and have it as your special cooking secret that everyone will love?

If you’re looking for a quick and easy meal that’s also kid friendly, then look no further than these Bacon Cheeseburger Calzones. You get all the ingredients of your favorite burger rolled up into a delicious little pocket that makes it easy to eat on the go or great for parties. Just roll out some crescent roll dough, brown up some ground beef and onions, add in a few of your favorite burger toppings, fold it all up, and bake until brown and bubbly. Simple and delicious!

Making The Perfect Calzone

Personally, I prefer to let the bacon crisp up in the oven while I brown the hamburger and onion together and chop the tomatoes. It saves me some time cleaning up the stove later from all the bacon splatters. If you don’t mind the grease, though, feel free to fry it up in a skillet in a couple messy minutes. If you do cook the bacon in the oven first, be sure to lower the oven temperature once you take the bacon out, to make sure you don’t overcook the calzones.

Image by Mighty June / Flickr

Also, take care not to overfill your calzone. You want to be sure you can get a good seal all the way around, otherwise, you’ll have filling falling out all over. Calzone fail. Still delicious, but not as handy as just picking it up and taking a nice big bite.

Bacon Cheeseburger Calzone

Ingredients:

8 slices of bacon
1 pound lean ground beef (at least 80%)
¼ cup diced onion
¼ cup chopped bread and butter pickle slices
¼ cup ranch dressing
2 Italian plum tomatoes, diced
4 slices American or Cheddar cheese, cut in half
2 cans refrigerated crescent dinner rolls, 8 oz
1 egg, beaten
¼ cup bbq sauce, optional

Directions:

Heat your oven to 400°F and bake the bacon in a foil-lined pan in the lower third of the oven for 15 – 20 minutes, until crispy. Let it cool completely, then crumble into pieces. Alternately, dice bacon into 1/4-inch pieces and cook it in a skillet over medium heat until crispy. Drain grease.

Lower oven temp to 375°F. Add the ground beef and onion to skillet and cook, stirring occasionally until beef is thoroughly cooked; drain if necessary. Stir in the ranch dressing.

Unroll the crescent dough and separate each can into 4 separate rectangles; place each rectangle on an ungreased cookie sheet. Press or roll each rectangle into a 7 x 4-inch rectangle or slightly larger, firmly pressing perforations to seal.

Spoon about ⅓ cup of the ground beef mixture onto one end of each rectangle. Top each rectangle with diced tomato, pickles, bacon, and 1 piece of cheese. Then, fold the dough completely over the filling and press the edges with a fork to seal (the sandwiches will be full). Brush the tops with the beaten egg.

Bake your calzones for 15 to 20 minutes or until deep golden brown. Immediately remove from cookie sheet and serve warm with the bbq sauce, if desired.

It Makes Everything Taste Better

Bacon is basically made of fat and salt, and these two ingredients have the magical ability to enhance any food. That’s why bacon or even bacon flavoring is added to so many foods we can’t keep track.
