Spring is finally here, and it’s time to start packing those heavy, dark beers into your cabinets and saving them for cold weather this fall. It’s now springtime, meaning that our beers will start to get lighter and more drinkable for those long evenings outside on the deck.

Looking for some perfect spring-centric beers for this season? Here are some of my top picks for beer styles that go great with the spring.

New England IPA

New England IPAs have been one of the most trending beers during the past couple of years. While normal IPAs are known for their hop bitterness, the New England variant of this style backs down on the hops and allows tropical fruit flavors to shine through.

Gose

Gose beers were originally brewed in Germany in the 13th century, and have recently become popular throughout the world. Low in alcohol and featuring lemon sour notes, saltiness, and a touch of coriander, this is an extremely drinkable style that you’ll love for doing yard work and other outside chores.

Pilsner

Another beer style with German roots that goes great with the springtime is the famous pilsner. While many of us might believe that this beer carries negative connotations due to its mass-produced variants, the truth is that craft breweries make plenty of delicious varieties of this refreshing brew.

Is there anything more American than a cold bottle of beer? Americans love beer, drinking it by the gallon and pledging their devotion to macro lagers and craft ales alike.

Despite the recent entrance of mass-produced craft beer to the market, American consumers still prefer mostly the old standbys. Here’s a look at the most popular beers in the United States.

5. Corona Extra

The fifth most popular beer in the US is from south of the border. This Mexican lager is reminiscent of the beach and beloved when served with a lime.

4. Miller Lite

Miller Lite, a light lager sold by a Milwaukee, Wisconsin-based company, is another American favorite. It’s known for being light and easy to drink.

3. Budweiser

Budweiser’s non-light edition comes in at third on the list. One of the quintessential American beers, Budweiser markets itself as the “King of Beers” due to its smooth, beechwood-aged lager character.

2. Coors Light

Coors Light is brewed using Rocky Mountain water in the American state of Colorado, and served in containers whose mountains turn blue when the beer has reached the temperature at which it’s meant to be drunk.

1. Bud Light

Budweiser’s light beer cousin is the most popular beer in the United States. It might not be the most overwhelming beer in terms of taste, but you can’t argue against its popularity at summer barbecues and sporting events.

You might think of wine when you think of Spain, but the truth is that this European country also makes a fair share of beer. In fact, despite having little fame outside of its own borders, some of the most popular Spanish beers are downright delicious. Here are four of Spain’s top beers.

Estrella Galicia

This beer is one of the trendiest of Spain’s lagers, and it’s easy to see why. Brewed in the northwestern region of Galicia, Estrella Galicia is a tasty and versatile beer that’s nice for summer sipping and enjoying with heavier dishes when the weather gets cooler.

Alhambra Reserva 1925

Looking for a more potent beer? Alhambra Reserva 1925 comes from a company based in Granada, whose beautiful Alhambra palace gives its name to the beer. It’s a stronger version of a Bohemian pilsner and works well when paired with food.

Ambar

This beer comes from the northeastern city of Zaragoza and is a classic pale lager that is loved throughout the country. Perfect for sipping with seafood or outside on a warm evening, Ambar is a Spanish favorite.

Basqueland Beer Project SSD

We would be remiss to not mention a craft beer on the list, and Basqueland Beer Project’s SSD double IPA is my favorite one from Spain. Coming from the northern Basque region, this beer is bursting with citrusy and piney hop flavors that will make your mouth water.
