Blueberries are, without a doubt, one of my favorite fruits. These little beauties have just come into season in the Northern Hemisphere and should be available fresh and local through the end of the summer.

Not only are they delicious, but blueberries are also full of health benefits that make them a no-brainer when choosing fruits to enjoy. Here are some of the reasons that make these berries so great for your body.

Antioxidant Boost

Blueberries just might be the most antioxidant-rich fruit out there. Flavonoids, a particular class of antioxidants that are great for reducing inflammation and cancer-causing free radicals in the body, are found in high concentrations in these fruits.

Low in Sugar

Despite being sweet to the palate, the reality is that blueberries actually have a low sugar concentration and are quite low in calories. In fact, a 100-gram serving of this fruit contains only 10 grams of sugars and 57 calories.

Mermelada de frambuesa con semillas #chia. El complemento ideal para tus boles de avena, tus batidos, yogur griego e incluso tostadas con mantequilla de maní/crema de cacahuete. Yo lo uso para acompañar galletas y bizcochos.⠀ ⠀ La receta es super fácil:⠀ – 140 gramos de frambuesas congeladas o frescas⠀ – 10 gramos de semillas de chia⠀ – 1/2 cucharadita de extracto de vainilla ⠀ – 1 cucharada soperas del edulcorante o miel lo que más te guste (puedes poner menos o más pero cuidado que puede quedar muy dulce)⠀ – 2 cucharadas soperas de agua (si notas que te queda muy apelmazado pon un poquito más)⠀ ⠀ Vamos a ello:⠀ ⠀ 1. Pon todos los ingredientes menos el edulcorante en una cacerola pequeña con calor intermedio, moviéndolo frecuentemente. Ingredients

For this berry jam you will need frozen blueberries and frozen raspberries, but you can use whatever frozen berries you have at home. You can also use fresh berries if you have a lot or it’s berry season. You will also need a splash of apple juice and, of course, chia seeds! Chia seeds are incredible seeds that are packed full of protein, but also become gel-like when they come into contact with water which is how the jam becomes a jam.

Recipe

  1. Pour the berries into a bowl and microwave them to defrost, or defrost as you usually do. If you’re using fresh berries, omit this step and add a little bit more water to your recipe.
  2. Pour in the apple juice along with the chia seeds and mix everything together with a fork.
  3. While you’re mixing, smash the berries with the fork so you release the juices and get a smoother consistency.
  4. Leave for 30 minutes, and then store or use right away!

Stewed berries are simply berries that have been cooked down with just a bit of some type of sugar. Stewed berries are really simple to make and only require a few ingredients, but the best part of them is after you make the, you can save for all sorts of recipes like oatmeal, ice cream, cakes, other desserts, and more! This recipe will take you less than 15 minutes to complete, and with the results you’ll get, it’ll be so worth it.

Ingredients

This recipe only has three ingredients: berries, honey, and mint. If you can’t get seasonal berries for this recipe, you can just use any frozen berries you can get at the grocery store. This recipe also works well with other fresh herbs like basil or thyme.

Recipe

  1. Pour 3/4 cup of fresh or frozen berries into a small saucepan.
  2. Put the heat on medium heat and wait for the berries to start getting soft and releasing their juices.
  3. Once they’ve started to soften, add in 1/2 tablespoon of honey or agave syrup if you want to make it vegan along with 1-2 sprigs of whatever fresh herb you’ve decided to use.
  4. After about 1-2 minutes, turn off the heat and allow all the ingredients to stew together and you’re ready to serve!
