Empanadas are a popular food choice in many countries throughout the world. Simply described as a meat and vegetable “mini pie,” you will find this delicious treat in plenty of countries throughout the world that once formed a part of the Spanish Empire.

Check out the places where this special food is still popular and widely-enjoyed today.

Spain

As the birthplace of the empanada, it’s no surprise that Spain is still a popular place to enjoy empanadas. This food enjoys hundreds of regional variants, from seafood empanadas in the country’s north to a vegetarian “pisto” option with sauteed veggies in Castilla.

Argentina

Argentina is absolutely in love with empanadas, which are typically oven-baked until golden brown. These treats are often served during the Easter and Lent periods of the year when they are filled with ingredients such as tuna.

Philippines

That’s right: you can find empanadas in Asia too! The Philippines, which was once ruled by Spain, continues the empanada tradition even now as a geographic anomaly. The Filipino version is commonly deep-fried and contains ingredients such as ground meat, potatoes, and vegetables.

Every place has its own signature thing, something that makes it stand out. Sometimes, it’s breathtaking nature, sometimes it’s crazy and wild parties, sometimes it’s weird traditions and sometimes, such as now, it’s the local food.

Here are some of the best looking street foods in the world that have to be tried!

Chimney cake from the Czech Republic

Even though Prague is famous for the huge spectrum of beer, they also have great food. The sweet bread, shaped like a chimney, looks adorable, and when combined with some ice-cream, it tastes like heaven!

Halo-Halo from the Philippines

Halo-Halo literally means mix-mix, and it’s as appropriate a name as they get. This is a perfect refreshment for hot days in the Philippines, and it’s made from shaved ice, evaporated milk, different kinds of fruit, ice-cream and some sweetened beans. Boiled kidney beans, garbanzo, coconut, rice, caramelized plantains, tapioca and sweet potato are just part of the ingredients that you may find.

ABC (Air Batu Campur) from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

This intriguing dessert made of shaved ice with sweetened condensed milk, palm sugar, peanuts, red beans and various other toppings, will blow your mind, not only with taste, but with its look as well.
