Spicy Roasted Pumpkin Seeds

It is pumpkin season, and you probably want to use it the best way you can. This means making pumpkin soup, enjoying pumpkin pie, and snacking on pumpkin seeds. You actually need just one large whole pumpkin, and you can make all of this.

Now, getting the pumpkin meat for soup and pie out of a whole pumpkin is rather straightforward. However, some people can have trouble with properly cleaning the pumpkin seeds. So let’s take care of that step by step.

Scoop Out the Pumpkin Seeds

Cut the top of the pumpkin and remove it. Using a spoon, scoop out all the pumpkin seeds you can find. Scrape well, and don’t mind the pulp for now.

Separate the Seeds From the Pulp

Remove large chunks and bits of pumpkin pulp. It’s not the most fun job, but you want your pumpkin seeds to be in the best condition for roasting.

Wash With Cold Water

Place your pumpkin seeds in a colander and wash them under cold water. You can also let them soak in a bowl of water, which will loosen up the remaining pumpkin pulp.

Let Them Dry

Spread the pumpkin seeds on a sheet and let them dry off completely. After that, roast them in an oven, and you get yourself a perfect snack.

Pumpkin seeds may not be the most obvious snack choice, but they are so good for you. They are rich in fiber, protein, vitamins, and minerals and a small quantity will keep you full for a long time.

One serving of pumpkin seeds – an ounce – has 160 calories and plenty of iron, magnesium, potassium, and zinc. Here are three reasons to include more pumpkin seeds in your diet.

  • They contain tryptophan, an amino acid that generates melatonin and serotonin. These hormones are responsible for your mood and quality of sleep, among other things.
  • Pumpkin seeds have anti-inflammatory properties, which means they can help you deal with arthritis and similar diseases.
  • Thanks to magnesium content, they will help your cardiovascular and nervous systems stay healthy.
