Most people tend to throw away their bread once it’s no longer fresh, but this is a huge waste. There are many ways to put your leftover stale bread to some good use, and these five are a good place to start.

French Toast

When making French toast, always make sure to go with leftover bread. Fresh bread won’t be as good because it will absorb moisture from other ingredients and leave you with soggy toast.

Breadcrumbs

Stale bread can also be turned into breadcrumbs, which you can use in many different ways, especially as a crunchy topping in salads.

Panzanella Salad

Speaking of salads, you should also consider making Panzanella salad whenever you have some leftover bread. It’s used as one of the main ingredients in this dish because it’s amazing at absorbing the garlicky dressing.

Croutons

If you enjoy using croutons in your salads and soups, there’s no need to buy them at the grocery store when you can simply make them by cutting leftover bread into tiny squares.

Bread Pudding

Bread pudding is one of the most popular dishes that you can make with leftover bread because it doesn’t taste as good when the bread is still super-fresh.

Are you one of those people who tend to throw away the bread as soon as it becomes stale? Don’t worry, we can’t really blame you since stale bread isn’t exactly the most pleasant thing you can eat. But did you know it doesn’t have to be like that? You can easily avoid wasting food and money by making your stale bread taste fresh with just one awesome trick.

Why Bread Turns Stale

The bread begins to transition into a stale phase shortly after it comes out of the oven and starts cooling off. This is because the loss of heat and moisture results in the crystallization of starchy carbohydrates.

The more time bread stays out in the open, the more starchy carbohydrates will crystalize, and the “stale” taste will intensify.

So, in order to have fresh bread, you just need to reverse the process and add moisture and heat to it.

Make Your Stale Bread Taste Fresh

The process is simple. Preheat your oven to 395 F. Take the loaf of bread and stick it under the running water for few seconds. Pop the water-soaked bread in the oven and bake it for around five minutes. Take it out, let it cool and enjoy your fresh bread.

This trick will work with most other baked goods as well.
