When we thinking of grilling, typically meat, fish, and veggies come to mind. We bet you haven’t thought about grilling fruits. Some fruits are simply meant to be grilled and when they are they become caramelized and even sweeter. It’s a real treat! Here are five fruits you have to grill at your next barbecue.

Bananas

Sure, bananas are delicious, but they’re even tastier when they’re grilled. They become caramelized and they pair so well with toppings like ice cream, caramel, chocolate sauce, cinnamon, brown sugar, whipped cream, and rum.

Watermelon

This fruit is already a must-have at barbecues and you can elevate it by grilling it. Grilled watermelon is a fabulous addition to salads and it tastes great on its own.

Peaches

Have you had grilled peaches, vanilla ice cream, and balsamic vinegar? If you haven’t then you’re really missing out on this dessert. Grilled peaches also taste great in cocktails or salads.

Pineapple

At barbecues, pineapple is usually on kebabs, but it tastes just as great grilled and served in cocktails or with sorbets.

Mangoes

Mangoes add a tropic vibe to whatever you pair them with and grilled ones make great additions to meat or fish.

Sangria—this fruity, boozy drink is a summer essential. It’s one of the easiest cocktails to make in bulk, and it makes any party or gettogether even better. With these three tips, your sangria will be even better and we guarantee there won’t be any leftover. Here’s how to make the best sangria.

Choosing Wine

Pretty much any type of wine can be used for sangria, but don’t use a really cheap one. The bottle you use should be one you’d drink on its own.

Adding Fruits and Herbs

It’s easy to go overboard with fruits and herbs, but just include ones that complement the wine. If you’re using white wine, tropical fruits and melon are great pairings. Regardless of what fruit you use, make sure it’s ripe and juicy. For the herbs, you don’t want to use bruised herbs because they don’t have much flavor.

More Booze

Wine isn’t the only alcohol you can add to sangria. Many recipes call for other liquors and liqueurs. Add just a little bit of extra booze or else your drink will be way too strong. If you want to get the flavor of liqueur without adding too much alcohol, top the pitcher with seltzer water or club soda before serving.

Cream cheese is one of the most underrated spreads. Sure, it’s amazing on bagels, but there are so many other uses for it. Cream cheese can take your sweet and savory dishes to the next level, making pasta, fillings, frosting, cakes, and dips even more delicious. Here are five uses for cream cheese beyond just a spread.

Creamy Chicken

Instead of using heavy cream to cook a tasty, creamy chicken, cream cheese is a great lighter alternative. Your chicken will be bursting with flavor!

Pasta

Do you love cheesy pasta? You can make your pasta even cheesier by adding a little cream cheese to the sauce of baked pasta. It will melt right in.

Savory Tarts

Cheese can be expensive and cream cheese is an affordable way to stretch pricier cheeses found in tarts. Cream cheese pairs well with almost any other cheese.

Creamy Dips

Cream cheese melts without breaking, making it great for baked dips. Pair cream cheese with your Greek yogurt vegetable dips.

Frosting

The secret to melt-in-your-mouth frosting is cream cheese. You’ll have fluffy and smooth frosting that’s the slightest bit tangy. Cream cheese pairs so well with anything chocolate.

Have you heard of Emily Mariko yet? If you’re following the latest food TikTokers, chances are you’ve stumbled upon Mariko’s salmon rice bowls. The fashion-food-and-lifestyle influencer (wow that’s a lot!), is known for her healthy food with an Asian touch and she has over 3.5 million followers! You’re going to want to start following her, and here’s everything you need to know about the food blogger.

Mariko’s most-viewed TikTok video dates back to September 22, 2021, and it has over 5.2 million likes! It features her salmon rice bowl which she smashes leftover salmon with a fork and adds Kewpie mayo, Siracha, soy sauce, avocado, kimchi, and dried seaweed.

@emilymariko

Best lunch of the week!

♬ original sound – Emily Mariko

The video went viral and many people recreating it, getting the most from leftover salmon. Since then, she created other versions of the recipe, using different sides like takuan (yellow pickled daikon radish), instead of kimchi. Based on advice from other users, she started using ice cubs to help steam the rice.

@emilymariko

I wasn’t kidding when I said I eat this once a week

♬ original sound – Emily Mariko

What makes Mariko so popular is her dishes are super easy to make and they use minimal ingredients, so you can create them at home, using leftovers. They are also really aesthetically pleasing, which is important when it comes to food. Good food is as much about the presentation as it is about the taste. And in Mariko’s case, she has both.

We’ve all been there—went to open a bottle of wine only for the cork to get stuck or broken. Trying to remove it is a real nightmare and it can even be dangerous. Next time it happens, make sure to try these tips as there’s nothing worse than cork pieces in an expensive bottle of wine.

Work the Angles

If the cork broke when you were opening the wine, leaving a chunk of the cork inside is frustrating. The best way to get it out is to gently use your wine key to twist, pull, and remove the other half of the cork if it hasn’t been pushed too far down the bottle’s neck. Insert the corkscrew at a 45-degree angle and use the side of the bottle for leverage.

Run the Neck Under Hot Water

This trick is pretty simple—put the neck of the wine bottle under hot water for about 30 seconds. The heat will cause the glass to expand and it might loosen it enough to get the cork out.

Push the Cork Into the Bottle

When all else fails, push the cork into the bottle. Pour the wine out of the bottle into a decanter, using a cheesecloth or fine-mesh sieve to strain any cork pieces.

If you don’t have a muffin tin in your pantry, it’s time to invest in one. It’s a kitchen superstar and there’s so much you can use them for beyond muffins and cupcakes. You won’t believe all of these amazing uses for muffin tins.

Sushi Cups

Sushi cups make great appetizers. Just press sushi rice into the muffin tins and fill them with fish and veggies.

Corn Dogs

These bite-sized corn dogs are perfect for kid’s birthday parties or family get-togethers. Add sliced hot dogs to cornbread mix for this dish. Serve with some dipping sauce on the side.

Individual Desserts

Instead of having a cake or pie, make individual desserts in muffin tins. There’s no slicing needed and it’s the easiest way to portion control.

Mini Cookie Cups

These adorable desserts are so easy to make—just add cookie dough to the muffin tins and bake them. When they’re out of the oven, fill them with whatever toppings you want.

Condiments Tray

Taco Tuesday or Build-Your-Own Baked Potato nights aren’t complete without tons of toppings, sauces, and fillings. Muffin tins are a great way to serve all of these things at once. Plus, cleanup is all in one spot.

Any chef can get tempted by shiny, new kitchen tools, especially when they’re trendy. But the problem with kitchen tools is many of them are only designed to do one thing and they can take up tons of room in your drawers. These three kitchen tools do the trick, but they’re really unnecessary.

Cherry Pitter

Pitting cherries is a real pain and cherry pitters make it easier, but if you own a metal pastry tip, metal straws, or chopsticks, you can use them to pit cherries. Just push them through the center of the fruit to poke the pit out.

Strawberry Huller

Instead of a strawberry huller, use a sharp paring knife to remove the green stems. Make sure to angle your knife at 45 degrees into the fruit and rotate in a circular fashion around the stem until the core is removed.

Egg Separator

Your hands will do the trick to separate the egg yolk from the whites. Crack the egg on the counter and empty it into your hand so the yolk is cradles in your palm and the whites steam through your fingers. There also won’t be jagged edges which pose the chance of the yolk getting broken and messing up your recipe.

Red wine pasta, also known as “drunken” pasta is the perfect meal for a night in with your loved one (which we’ll be having a lot of during this quarantine period). This pasta uses a delicious reduced red wine-shallot sauce and it’s topped with pancetta and cheese! Plus, it only takes 30 minutes to make it and it yields four to six servings! Serve it with some garlic bread and a green salad.

Ingredients:

  • 1 tablespoon extra-virgin olive oil
  • 4 ounces pancetta, cut into 1/2-inch pieces
  • 2 garlic cloves, thinly sliced
  • 1 large shallot, thinly sliced
  • 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes
  • Kosher salt
  • 1 (750 ml) bottle red wine
  • 1 pound spaghetti
  • 1/4 cup finely grated Pecorino Romano cheese
  • Chopped fresh parsley leaves

Instructions:

  1. Heat oil in a large straight-sided skillet over medium heat. Add the pancetta and cook, stirring occasionally until it’s crisp and lightly browned, for about 6 minutes.
  2. With a slotted spoon transfer pancetta to a paper towel to drain.
  3. Add shallot, garlic, and red pepper flakes to the pan and season it with salt.
  4. Cook over medium heat, stirring occasionally until it’s soft and translucent, for 2 to 3 minutes.
  5. Add the red wine and increase it to medium-high heat and bring it to a boil for 2 minutes.
  6. Cook the pasta in a large pot of salted boiling water for 4 minutes.
  7. Drain, reserving 1 cup pasta water.
  8. Add pasta to the pot with red wine, cooking and stirring until the pasta is bright red and al dente. Most of the wine should be absorbed, 4 to 6 minutes.
  9. Stir in the cheese and pancetta.
  10. Add the pasta water as needed to loosen the sauce.
  11. Serve with more cheese, parsley, and red pepper flakes.

We’re well into summer and if you haven’t fired up your grill—what are you waiting for? Since the pandemic, there’s been an increase in grill sales and people have been elevating the way they play with fire. Here are four of the hottest girl trends this summer, so you can get in on the fun.

Smokers

In the past, people used to be intimidated by smokers, but now they’re easier to use, especially if you have an electric or has version. Smoking meat gives it an incredible flavor.

Vegetable Variety

Grilled eggplant, mushrooms, peppers, zucchini, corn, and tomatoes have been done for years, but now, cooks are experimenting with others veggies like sweet potatoes, Brussel sprouts, and cauliflower.

Accessories

Instead of just spatulas, grill brushes, and tongs, tools like wireless thermometers, grill mats, and burger presses are becoming more popular. These accessories are making sure food is cooked thoroughly and evenly, making for easier preparation and better-tasting food.

Baking

People are using the grills as an extension of their indoor kitchens. They’re baking everything from pizzas and casseroles to pies and brownies on grills. As long as you have a thermometer, you can follow the recipe the same way you would with an indoor oven.
