In case you didn’t know, January 22 marks National Hot Sauce Day (don’t worry, it’s news to us, too). To celebrate this auspicious holiday, Mountain Dew has decided to partner up with a Houston-based sauce shop called iBurn to create a hot sauce with a signature fruity tinge.
So what can we expect?
“The new MTN DEW Baja Blast Hot Sauce merges the iconic tropical flavor of the fan-favorite MTN DEW Baja Blast with the heat from habanero peppers, green chiles, and jalapeño peppers for a taste straight from Baja Island!” states the description.
And in true Baja Blast style, the hot sauce is blue!
But those who want to taste the spicy stuff will have to have a fair bit of luck on their side…
Mountain Dew has decided to make only 750 bottles of the sauce—all of which can only be won. The competition on the soft drink’s website involves selecting one of four foods that you’d like to try with the Baja Blast Hot Sauce.
Good luck!

]]>If you go to a Mexican restaurant, you have to be prepared to try a wide variety of burning hot sauces, salsas, and dishes that are as delicious as they are spicy.
Here are some of the top Mexican hot sauces that one can find and add to give a kick to your next dish.
Cholula is a tasty and well-rounded hot sauce that is spicy, but not too hot. This sauce is produced in Jalisco, Mexico and is made out of arbol and piquin peppers, giving it its characteristic red color.
While Tapatio isn’t exactly from Mexico, but rather from Mexican immigrants that began to produce this sauce in California, it’s the least hot of these options, but its rich red pepper flavor adds a smoky bite to any dish.
El Yucateco is known for its characteristic green color, which comes from the extra spicy habanero peppers that are used in its production. Use this sauce sparingly if your taste buds aren’t used to heat!
Valentina is the last on this list, but definitely not the least. Produced in Guadalajara, it’s a citrusy, spicy sauce that adds an interesting tangy hot flavor. It’s especially great with seafoods like shrimp tacos.

]]>Whether you’re putting it on chicken or potatoes, the heat and vinegar taste that hot sauce provides is necessary for so many dishes. However, making your own ensure that no unknown additives go in, like the kind you get from store-bought. Luckily, all you need to make it is hot peppers, vinegar, garlic, and salt cooked in a pot and blended!
Mayo is the base for so many other great condiments, so perfecting it is necessary, and luckily it couldn’t be easier. Simply whisk or blend an egg yolk, lemon juice, vinegar, mustard and ½ teaspoon of salt together until the mixture is bright yellow. Then, gently add in olive oil while continuing to whisk or blend, and you’ll have amazing mayonnaise!

Tartar sauce is absolutely when you’re eating fried fish, whether it’s in a sandwich or by itself. Instead of using something from a jar, make the recipe above for mayonnaise, add onions and dill pickles, and you have yourself gourmet tartar sauce.
