Unleash your inner chef and embark on a culinary journey with this mouthwatering recipe to create your very own lamb koftas. Bursting with aromatic spices and juicy flavors, these tender meatballs are perfect for grilling, frying, or skewering. Get ready to tantalize your taste buds and impress your friends and family with these homemade delights. Let’s dive into the delectable world of lamb koftas.

Ingredients:

  • 1 pound of ground lamb
  • 1 small onion, finely grated
  • 2 cloves of garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon fresh parsley, chopped
  • 1 tablespoon fresh cilantro, chopped
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon ground coriander
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Olive oil (for cooking)
  • Lemon wedges (for serving)
  • Yogurt sauce or tzatziki (for dipping, optional)

Instructions:

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground lamb, finely grated onion, minced garlic, chopped parsley, chopped cilantro, ground cumin, ground coriander, ground paprika, ground cinnamon, ground nutmeg, salt, and pepper. Mix well until all the ingredients are evenly incorporated.
  2. Using clean hands, shape the lamb mixture into small, oval-shaped meatballs, about 1-2 inches in diameter. You should be able to make approximately 12-16 koftas, depending on the size.
  3. If grilling, preheat your grill to medium-high heat. If frying, heat a skillet or frying pan over medium heat and add a drizzle of olive oil.
  4. Grill or fry the Lamb Koftas in batches, cooking for about 3-4 minutes per side, or until they are cooked through and nicely browned on the outside. If grilling, you can also thread the koftas onto skewers for easy handling.
  5. Once cooked, transfer the Lamb Koftas to a serving platter and garnish with fresh parsley or cilantro. Serve hot with lemon wedges for squeezing over the koftas and yogurt sauce or tzatziki for dipping, if desired.
  6. Enjoy the irresistible flavors of your homemade Lamb Koftas as a flavorful appetizer, main course, or part of a Mediterranean-inspired feast. Pair them with rice, couscous, pita bread, or a fresh salad for a complete meal that will satisfy your cravings and leave you longing for more.

Have you ever found yourself confused and overwhelmed while looking at the menu of your favorite doner kebab restaurant? The multiple choices might seem daunting to understand, but fear not. Here is your guide to understanding the top choices at kebab restaurants and deciding which one is right for you!

Pita Kebab

When you think of a kebab dish, you probably think of this option. Pita kebab, which is often known as doner kebab, contains a large amount of shredded meat along with sauces and vegetables, including lettuce, tomato, and onion, inside of a sliced piece of pita bread.

Durum Kebab

Durum kebab is almost identical to pita kebab, but it does have one main difference. The fillings are the same, but durum kebab is served inside of a wrap. Toasted on a small grill, you will love the handheld convenience of this option.

Lahmacun

Now, here’s where things get considerably different. Lahmacun is a type of “Turkish Pizza” which has strongly different ingredients than the previous two choices. A thin piece of dough is topped with minced meat, spices, vegetables, and herbs and eaten like a pizza.

Doner kebab is one of the most popular late-night and snack foods on Earth. This meaty treat is now found from New York to Nairobi and has put meat cylinders on the map as a source of some of the most delectable meat that you will find.

However, are you aware of the origins of doner kebab and what exactly it is?

Doner kebab hails from the country of Turkey, where it began to grow as a popular food. The name of the dish literally means “meat on a grill that spins,” which refers to the rotisserie method of cooking doner meat.

The meat, which is typically either lamb or chicken, is left to roast on the grill for hours until being shaved off into thin slices. This is a hallmark of doner kebab, seeing the stand worker strip the meat into paper-thin pieces to be served.

Doner kebab is usually eaten inside of either a wrap (none as durum) or a pita to be enjoyed. In typical preparations, it is served inside of the bread element with vegetables such as lettuce and tomatoes, and also with sauces.

The traditional sauces served with doner kebabs include garlic yogurt sauce and a spicy red chili sauce that add a succulent flavor element to the food.

Now that you know everything about doner kebabs, go out and try one! You’ll be sure to love it.

Turkey is a very unusual country and the fact it lays on two continents only makes it more tempting. So if you plan on traveling to Turkey, here is a list of the best foods you absolutely must try!

Kebab

There are a few different types of kebabs found in Turkey. The Kuyu kebab, Adana kebab, Iskender kebab and Şiş kebab are all really tasty, but if you want to try only one or two, then we recommend you try Şiş and Adana varieties. The former is typically lamb, chicken or fish served on a wooden rod, while Adana kebab is made of lamb meat and tail fat. They both taste amazing and will make you cry for more.

Doner

It’s a meat sandwich, usually slow cooked. The meat is cooked on a vertical rotisserie, usually lamb, chicken or beef, and served with different kinds of vegetables and spices in pita bread.

Baklava

The mistress of desserts, her royal highness – baklava! This dessert is made of layers of phyllo dough, nuts that you put between them (you can use all kinds) and sherbet (syrup), and it is simply designed to blow your mind. It’s very specific for making, but worth it every second!
