Have you ever been to Brazil before? If you’ve spent any time in this South American country, you’ll undoubtedly be familiar with the love that Brazilians have for guarana, a plant that produces seeds that are commonly used in drinks in the country.

Guarana seeds give caffeine and flavor to Brazilian soft drinks, providing a taste that is woody, earthy, and subtle. Here are three popular Brazilian drinks that you should try to dip your toe into the world of guarana.

Guaraná Antarctica

Guarana Antarctica is the second most popular soft drink in Brazil behind Coca-Cola. It’s a beloved drink that is flavored with the guarana plant and sugar, prompting people to say that it tastes like a mix of apple and berry. It has a little bit of caffeine, too.

Kuat

Coca-Cola saw the success of Guarana Antarctica in the country and wanted to get their piece of the action as well, creating Kuat. The company even tried selling this version in the United States, but it never took off.

Guaraná Schin

Guarana Schin is another Brazilian iteration of a guarana-based soft drink. Many say that this is the version that tastes most like the real fruit, meaning that it’s a little bit more astringent than others.

What’s your favorite soda flavor? From the classic notes of Coca-Cola to the citrus burst that drinks like Sprite and Mountain Dew offer, there is truly something for anyone available for those that like a carbonated drink.

In fact, you might just not even believe some of the strange soda flavors that are available throughout the globe! Check out some of the weirdest sodas that have become popular in different countries around the planet.

Curry Soda (Japan)

Ramune, a Japanese company that specializes in making unique flavors, but has experienced incredible popularity, offers a soda that is made with curry. Combining citrus flavors, sweetness, and curry might sound strange, but many love this beverage.

Grass Jelly Soda (Malaysia)

If you don’t mind chunks of grassy pulp in your soda, this bizarre beverage from Malaysia might be just for you. This drink is actually based around a popular Asian dessert that uses the leaves from a mint-like plant, though, and not the type of grass that you’d find in your lawn.

Birch Beer (United States)

Despite its misleading name, birch beer doesn’t contain any alcohol. It is, in reality, just a soda that is similar to root beer, containing herbal extracts and the bark from birch trees, a commonly-found tree in the northeastern United States.

It’s undeniable that soft drink brands such as Coca-Cola and Pepsi dominate in the United States and in much of the world. The king of soft drinks in the country of Mexico, however, doesn’t come from either of these two giants.

Jarritos is the soft drink par excellence in Latin America’s most populous country. Founded on August 29th, 1950 by a man named Francisco Hill, this company launched into the market with a coffee-flavored soft drink! It didn’t take him long, however, to find out that the future was in citrus and fruit-flavored drinks.

After beginning to acquire fruits such as grapefruit, mango, mandarin oranges, tamarind,  pineapples, and guava from the Mexican territory, the company started to make soft drinks featuring these quintessential Mexican flavors. By the 1960s, Jarritos became the most popular soda in the country!

Jarritos are now available in the aforementioned flavors as well as newer additions such as strawberry, watermelon, grape, and lime. They’re still usually made with natural fruit flavors and are known to be richer, less artificial, and less carbonated than more mass-produced drinks.

According to the company, more than 1,200 bottles of Jarritos are now exported per minute, meaning that these delicious sodas are now available outside of national borders. Be sure to give it a try if you find it at your local store!

The World of Coca-Cola in Atlanta, Georgia in the United States is a place where soft drink lovers must travel.

Located in downtown Atlanta, the World of Coke is a sort of museum and exhibition about the history and actuality of the Coca-Cola Company. Founded in this southern city in 1886 by pharmacist John Stith Pemberton, the story of this beverage giant is fascinating and well-told at this museum.

While the history is interesting, my personal favorite part of the whole World of Coca-Cola is the last place you reach: the Taste It! World.

Here, the World of Coca-Cola has a variety of machines set up where visitors can try a variety of Coca-Cola products offered around the world.

While you might think you know a lot of Coke products, you have no idea just how many there are and how unique they can be until you visit this part of the World of Coca-Cola. From the impossibly bitter Beverly soda from Italy to the delicious Fanta Melon Frosty from Thailand, your taste buds will love the ride.

Be sure to check out this unique tasting space if you find yourself in Atlanta one day!
