Guarana Antarctica is the second most popular soft drink in Brazil behind Coca-Cola. It’s a beloved drink that is flavored with the guarana plant and sugar, prompting people to say that it tastes like a mix of apple and berry. It has a little bit of caffeine, too.
Coca-Cola saw the success of Guarana Antarctica in the country and wanted to get their piece of the action as well, creating Kuat. The company even tried selling this version in the United States, but it never took off.
Guarana Schin is another Brazilian iteration of a guarana-based soft drink. Many say that this is the version that tastes most like the real fruit, meaning that it’s a little bit more astringent than others.

If you don’t mind chunks of grassy pulp in your soda, this bizarre beverage from Malaysia might be just for you. This drink is actually based around a popular Asian dessert that uses the leaves from a mint-like plant, though, and not the type of grass that you’d find in your lawn.
Despite its misleading name, birch beer doesn’t contain any alcohol. It is, in reality, just a soda that is similar to root beer, containing herbal extracts and the bark from birch trees, a commonly-found tree in the northeastern United States.

]]>Jarritos is the soft drink par excellence in Latin America’s most populous country. Founded on August 29th, 1950 by a man named Francisco Hill, this company launched into the market with a coffee-flavored soft drink! It didn’t take him long, however, to find out that the future was in citrus and fruit-flavored drinks.
After beginning to acquire fruits such as grapefruit, mango, mandarin oranges, tamarind, pineapples, and guava from the Mexican territory, the company started to make soft drinks featuring these quintessential Mexican flavors. By the 1960s, Jarritos became the most popular soda in the country!
Jarritos are now available in the aforementioned flavors as well as newer additions such as strawberry, watermelon, grape, and lime. They’re still usually made with natural fruit flavors and are known to be richer, less artificial, and less carbonated than more mass-produced drinks.
According to the company, more than 1,200 bottles of Jarritos are now exported per minute, meaning that these delicious sodas are now available outside of national borders. Be sure to give it a try if you find it at your local store!
