If you’re in a pinch and need to dash to the grocery store for snacks, these are the healthiest ones to get.

Hummus and Veggies

Hummus is one of the best snacks to grab from the grocery store because it’s vegan, full of protein, and overall delicious. This is a great snack that can really tide you over for several hours, and it’s even better if you buy some baby carrots or some celery sticks to go along with it! If not, pita chips always work out great.

Nuts

When you’re in a time crunch, why not go for a crunchy snack? Nuts can be a little pricy but if you go for unsalted peanuts, you can get a very healthy snack that is much more affordable. People are afraid of nuts because of their fat content, but the fat is so good for you and there are so many great vitamins and minerals that will keep you going they are always worth it.

Anything with Whole Grains

Check the labels of course, but if you see chips, crackers, or anything of the sort that have whole grains or seeds in them, they’re probably a good bet. Still, read the label to see how much sodium is in them and if there is added sugar, but whole grains is a great snack on the go.

Have you noticed someone munching on a mysterious dark green snack lately and wondered what they had in their hands?

Well, chances are that person was eating a roasted seaweed snack, a food that has become all the rage all over the world in recent years.

While seaweed was rejected by the mainstream population for many years as a food item in most countries, now, its delicious flavor and health benefits are turning it into one of the most popular snacks on earth.

The most popular type of roasted seaweed snack is made with the Nori variety of seaweed, a plant that is found in the oceans of Japan. This country is where the snack became popular. It is then dried and roasted with just slight amounts of oil and sea salt to turn it into a healthy and delicious snack item.

Why is roasted seaweed so good? Well, it contains a savory and rich flavor that is full of umami. It’s a perfect accompaniment to Asian dishes or as an alternative to potato chips when you want a salty snack.

It’s definitely healthier than potato chips, as it doesn’t contain massive amounts of fat and carbohydrates.

In addition, in roasted seaweed, you can get all kinds of essential nutrients. For example, a serving of seaweed will give you a robust dose of iodine, Vitamin B12, and potassium!

Give roasted seaweed a try! Who knows, it could become your new alternative to unhealthy junk snack foods!

Eating dark, leafy greens is so important for your body and your brain, and most people are not getting in enough. Here is how you can eat them in every meal in totally different ways!

Breakfast

In many cultures, people actually eat salads for breakfast, so it’s not as strange as it seems. Toast some whole wheat bread and pile it high with arugula, spinach, and seasonal veggies! They key is to season everything well so it tastes yummy, so make sure to first toss the greens with your favorite vinaigrette or even just lime juice.

Lunch

https://www.instagram.com/p/BxuUzRUA4XV/

Pack yourself a green smoothie to eat alongside your lunch, so no matter what you have as your main meal, you know you’ll be getting in your greens! Just throw any frozen fruit into a blender with milk or water, tons of greens, and blitz away.

Dinner

Besides actually having a salad, the best way to get in your greens after a long day is to hide it in something really yummy like a sauce.

Pesto is the one of the easiest because it’s raw and comes together in a food processor! Combine basil, nuts, a little Parmesan, a clove of garlic, and plenty of greens in a food processor. Run it and drizzle in olive oil until it’s the perfect consistency. Use on chicken, pasta, or whatever you love!

Want fries without the unhealthy part? Well, now that the weather’s warmer, we’ve come up with the perfect french fry alternative. With all the crunch and flavor of the potato version, these asparagus fries are so quick and delicious, you’ll want to eat them all the time.

The crunch comes from an almond meal that adds healthy fats and fiber, and the cheesy flavor comes from the delicious dairy-free alternative, nutritional yeast.

It’s packed with B vitamins and is a great alternative to fat-laden regular cheese. And who doesn’t love fresh, green asparagus, that just happens to come in the right spear-like shape for fries?

Ingredients

  • 1 lb asparagus, trimmed
  • 1 large egg, beaten
  • 1/3 cup almond meal
  • 1/4 cup nutritional yeast
  • 1/2 teaspoon sea salt

Method

  1. Preheat oven to 425ºF. Place the asparagus spears in a large mixing bowl. Pour over the beaten egg, and coat spears using your hands.
  2. Combine almond meal, nutritional yeast, and sea salt in a small bowl.
  3. Shake excess egg off the asparagus and toss spears in the almond meal mixture.
  4. Arrange the asparagus spears on the baking sheet. Bake for 10 -12 minutes, until light golden brown. Serve hot.
