]]>So, what exactly is yakiniku?
Well, to put it plainly, this tradition can be described as a form of Japanese BBQ. At a yakiniku restaurant or at a home where this type of food is prepared, diners participate in an interactive experience in which they grill premium-quality cuts of meat on a personal grill.
You might be thinking that yakiniku sounds pretty similar to Korean BBQ, and you’d be right. In fact, this tradition originated with Japanese people who brought this Korean tradition back to their home country. They’ve definitely managed to put their own twist on the art, however.
In Japan, yakiniku focuses largely on Wagyu beef products. As you may know, Wagyu beef is considered one of the most prestigious meats in the world, and its quality is on full display in yakiniku.
Beef is the king when it comes to Japanese BBQ, but you can also sometimes find other meat cubes from animals such as pigs, as well as offal products like beef heart. Commonly, diners choose to eat side dishes such as egg yolk rice, cabbage, and seaweed.
The meats are made even better when enjoyed with soy sauce and sesame-based dips that give this Japanese BBQ meat a final kick that is unforgettably good.
If you find yourself in Tokyo or near a Japanese BBQ restaurant, give it a try and enjoy one of the most unforgettable meals of your life.

]]>The post Explaining the Main Varieties of Sushi appeared first on falafelandcaviar.com.
]]>Here, we present a guide to the main varieties of sushi to help you better understand sushi and to enjoy it even more.
The first variety of sushi that we’ll mention in our guide is the most common sushi variety, especially at foreign restaurants. This type of sushi is what is often referred to as a “roll,” with an outer layer of seaweed enclosing sushi rice, fish, and vegetables.
Nigiri is one of the most elegant forms of sushi. It consists of a chunk of sushi rice with a topping served on it, which is usually a high-grade fish. Simple, yet delicious, it is a versatile variety that allows for lots of creativity.
Sashimi is the simplest form of sushi. It literally consists only of fish or shellfish served by itself and with no rice or vegetables. It is the form of sushi that you’ll want to go to with high-quality seafood since it lets the flavor shine.
Temaki is the least-known variety on the list, but one of the most exciting. It it a “cone” of sushi that has been rolled by hand. This variety is wrapped in seafood which creates a sort of burrito with rice, fish, and vegetables on the inside. Yum!

]]>The ingredients list includes 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt, 1/2 teaspoon pure vanilla extract, 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour, 1 large egg yolk and 3 large egg whites, 2 teaspoons baking powder, 1 1/4 cups milk, 3 tablespoons confectioners’ sugar, maple syrup, 4 tablespoons melted and cooled unsalted butter, 1/4 teaspoon cream of tartar.
Use a bowl to mix the confectioners’ sugar, flour, baking powder, and salt. In another bowl, mix the melted butter, milk, egg yolk, and vanilla. In a third one, beat the cream of tartar and egg whites. Use medium speed for two minutes.
Slowly add the milk in the flour mix and start stirring. Also include one third of the egg whites mix in. Continue adding the egg whites slowly until you’re done.
You will need a ring mold that is around 3 inches wide and 2 1/2 inches high. Spray it with cooking spray and also prepare a skillet. Place it on medium-low heat. Also, put the ring mold in there. You can start pouring the Japanese pancakes mixture in the mold, reaching one half of the height. You should cook around 5 minutes on each side. You can eat them right away and serve them with the maple syrup.

]]>Here are three of the strangest gastronomic New Years’ traditions from around the world.
In Spain, it is tradition to consume 12 grapes at the strike of the clock on New Years’ Eve. What’s so strange about this? Well, Spaniards stuff one grape into their mouth at the stroke of every second beginning at 11:59:48 until their mouths are full at midnight and they can finally eat them.
Pickled herring is made of dehydrated herring, a small fish that lives throughout the northern waters of the Atlantic, which has been marinated in a brine solution.
It might not sound appetizing, but in these Northern European cultures, eating pickled herring on New Years’ Eve is supposed to bring good fortune for the new year.
A New Years’ Eve tradition in Japan is to eat soba noodles when the clock strikes midnight on New Years’.
Soba noodles are made from buckwheat flour and are usually eaten in a broth with vegetables and spices. Eating these noodles on January 1st is supposed to cleanse the body and mind and prepare it for the year ahead.
