Everyone knows that oatmeal is a delicious and nutritious way to start your day. But, if you want warm oatmeal in the morning but don’t have time to make breakfast, use this recipe to make slow cooker oats that will surely satisfy!

Recipe

https://www.instagram.com/p/9XAJuYHTwi/
  1. Measure out 2 cups of steel-cut oats and pour that into the slow cooker along with 8 cups of water.
  2. If you want your oats to be sweet, add in 1/2 cup of packed brown sugar, or less if you don’t want it to be as decadent.
  3. Then add in 1 teaspoon of salt, which might sound odd, but it won’t make the oats taste salty, it just enhances all the other flavors that are going into it.
  4. Add in a splash of vanilla along with a pound of the frozen fruit of your choice. If you want to do fresh fruit like apples or pears, you can consider also adding spices like nutmeg, cloves, and cinnamon to really round out the flavors.
  5. Stir everything together and then put the lid on and turn the setting to low and leave overnight.
  6. Once it’s the morning, if you like super creamy oats, you can add in a cup of milk, and then serve it up and top with your favorite toppings like shredded coconut, sliced almonds, raisins, or plain!

Oatmeal is an excellent start to the day. It’s full of energy and it keeps you full until lunchtime. On top of that, it’s just about the most cost-efficient start to the day there is. The trouble is, it tastes pretty bland on its own.

Luckily, there are plenty of quick and easy ways to make a hot bowl of porridge tasty and enticing. Here are some of our favorites.

Fruit and Nuts

Adding banana to porridge makes it taste thicker and creamier, and a handful of fruits and nuts will add delicious flavors and give you added nutrients. A spoonful of cinnamon is also a tasty tip if you want to spice things up.

Fruit and Peanut Butter

You don’t need to have a fruit bowl of exotic fruits to make your porridge taste yummy. Sliced banana and a handful of berries should do the trick. Oh, and don’t forget a spoonful of peanut butter. Not only does it go wonderfully with porridge, it contains healthy fats to give you energy for the day.

Chocolate Oatmeal

If you like to get your sugar kick in the morning, why not add some coacoa powder to your porridge? This sweet recipe is delicious and is much healthier than you might think.

Go Savory

You don’t need to stick to sweet flavors for your morning bowl. We love this pumpkin and egg recipe for a protein-packed and delicious start to the day.

Smoothie Bowls

And if you aren’t convinced by any of these hot dishes, you can always just add a handful of oats to your favorite smoothie bowl. You’ll get all the energy and nutrients and won’t even realize its there.

Whether you’re a fan of smoothie bowls, chia seed pudding, or old fashioned oatmeal, you are starting your day on the right foot by consuming any one of these dishes.

And if you want to make your breakfast even more nutritious, there are some secrets to increasing your nutrition absorption and getting your day to an even better start.

Chia Seeds

Whether you’re sprinkling them on top of something or using them as the base of a pudding, soaking them for 10-20 minutes before you use them will help them bloom and become easier to digest. Soaking them also helps to slow down digestion, which will make you feel fuller faster.

Flax Seeds

https://www.instagram.com/p/BuCXwYEAxYJ/

Flax seeds are a great way to add protein to your breakfasts, but make sure to grind them before you add them to smoothies or anything of the like. This is because the tough outer shell cannot be digested in our bodies, so we have to help it out by crushing it either in a mortar and pestle or a spice grinder.

Oatmeal

Even though oats don’t take long to cook, by soaking them beforehand you help your body to digest them much easier, as well as being able to absorb the nutrients faster and more easily.

  2. 8 Cups of water
  3. 7 Tablespoons maple syrup
  4. 2 ½ teaspoons Cinnamon

  1. Bring water and salt to a full rolling boil.
  2. Add oats and turn down the heat.
  3. Simmer for half an hour.
  4. Let stand for ten minutes.
  5. Add syrup and cinnamon.
  6. Grease 2 X 12 muffin pans.
  7. Spoon into 21. Three “ steel muffins” will be your breakfast portion.
  8. Freeze for five hours.

Flax Seeds

Flax seeds are a great way to add protein to your breakfasts, but make sure to grind them before you add them to smoothies or anything of the like. This is because the tough outer shell cannot be digested in our bodies, so we have to help it out by crushing it either in a mortar and pestle or a spice grinder.

Oatmeal

Even though oats don’t take long to cook, by soaking them beforehand you help your body to digest them much easier, as well as being able to absorb the nutrients faster and more easily.
