Whether you’re a fan of smoothie bowls, chia seed pudding, or old fashioned oatmeal, you are starting your day on the right foot by consuming any one of these dishes.

And if you want to make your breakfast even more nutritious, there are some secrets to increasing your nutrition absorption and getting your day to an even better start.

Chia Seeds

Whether you’re sprinkling them on top of something or using them as the base of a pudding, soaking them for 10-20 minutes before you use them will help them bloom and become easier to digest. Soaking them also helps to slow down digestion, which will make you feel fuller faster.

Ground Flaxseeds. . Note – there are 2 ways of consuming flaxseeds – as oil or seeds (ground). This post is about the benefits and method for GROUND flaxseed. Oil to come soon! . Ive just started adding ground flaxseed into my diet – here are the reasons why and some important info. about storage. . Benefits 👍 Ground flaxseeds contain high amounts of lignans. Lignans balance the effects of oestrogen in the body; this is noteworthy given the rise in oestrogen dominant cancers – e.g. breast, endometrium, prostate (approx. 80% breast cancers respond to oestrogen – known as ER positive). Flaxseeds also have benefits against cardiovascular disease, anti-inflammatory properties and alleviating menopausal symptoms (again due to oestrogen balancing). Their high fibre content also supports regular bowel movements. . Buying, preparing and storing – important stuff! 🍶 Best to buy organic whole flaxseeds. The seeds need to be ground for optimum absorption of nutrients. To grind – I use a mini coffee grinder which I find great (Krupps coffee mill), alternatively use a food processor or good old pestle & mortar. Given ground flaxseeds are high in omega 3 oils (polyunsaturated fat), they go rancid easily. It’s best to use ground flaxseed immediately and only store for a few days in the fridge. This is why I don’t recommend buying ground flaxseeds – the healthy way is to DIY these 🤓 #flaxseed #groundflax #health #nutritionaltherapy

Flax seeds are a great way to add protein to your breakfasts, but make sure to grind them before you add them to smoothies or anything of the like. This is because the tough outer shell cannot be digested in our bodies, so we have to help it out by crushing it either in a mortar and pestle or a spice grinder.

Even though oats don’t take long to cook, by soaking them beforehand you help your body to digest them much easier, as well as being able to absorb the nutrients faster and more easily.
