If you wake up in the middle of the night and feel like a late-night snack, then you’re in luck: these fire crackers will be sure to do the trick. Whether you eat them as a snack between meals, share them with friends, or enjoy them long after the sun goes down, here’s how you can create these scrumptious fire crackers.

Ingredients:

  • 2 sleeves unsalted Saltine crackers
  • 1 cup olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons Chinese five-spice powder
  • 2 cloves garlic
  • 1 tablespoon chili crisp
  • 2 teaspoons white miso

Instructions:

  1. In a small bowl, mix together the garlic, miso, chili crisp, salt, and Chinese five-spice. Whisk them together before pouring them into a resealable box.
  2. Place the crackers in the bag and shake it up until the crackers are fully coated in the spice mix. Put the bag of crackers on a baking sheet and allow the crackers to marinate at room temperature for an hour at least.
  3. Once the hour is up, place the crackers on as many baking trays as needed. It’s alright if they overlap. Preheat your oven to 300 F while putting the bag with oil and spice on the kitchen counter.
  4. Bake the crackers for 10 minutes. Using a spoon, gather any spice and oil left in the resealable bag and scatter them over the crackers.
  5. Return the crackers to the oven and allow them to bake for another 10 minutes.
  6. Allow the crackers to cool on the baking sheet for five minutes before serving with the dip of your choice.

Fat & Calorie Content

Nuts are definitely healthier than most other snacks that you’d be eating otherwise, but it’s important to keep in mind they have very high fat and calorie content. The number varies between certain types of nuts, but most of them contain 500-700 calories per 100 grams.

Practice Moderation

Due to their high fat and calorie content, nuts are best eaten in moderation. Keep portion sizes small, and if you’re struggling to keep on snacking, avoid eating them directly from the bag so you wouldn’t go overboard. Measure the portion beforehand and try to stick to it.

Roasted and Flavored

Dry-roasted, salted, flavored, or honey-roasted nuts can taste quite delicious, but they won’t do your health any favors. Extra sodium and sugar that they contain can significantly decrease their healthy properties, so it’s best to eat them plain or fry or roast them on your own.

Fall is here and one of Americans’ most beloved pastimes as the weather starts to cool down and the leaves change is venturing north to see the foliage. Whether you’re planning travels a few months in advance or throwing together a last-minute trip, you’ll want to be prepared, especially when it comes to food. We’ve spent our fair share of time on the road, and in our experience, there are a few types of snacks that never disappoint. Here are the ones we always have on hand during road trips.

Cut Fruit & Veggies

Fresh fruit and vegetables are some of our favorite healthy things to snack on, but it’s less than ideal to have to figure out what to do with apple cores and banana peels when you’re finished eating—not to mention they can start to smell after a while. Save yourself the trouble by cutting up your favorite produce in advance and packing it in some Tupperware. Sprinkle apples with a little lemon juice to keep them from going brown. 

Roasted Chickpeas

A healthier alternative to potato chips, roasted chickpeas are high in fiber and protein, so they’re a great option for staying full and satisfied between pit stops. We love the brand Biena for both sweet and savory varieties.

Popcorn

High in fiber and low in calories (so long as it’s not doused in butter), popcorn is one of our favorite healthy snack options to take with us on the road. You can definitely make your own, but we love the brand Lesser Evil for an organic option available in fun flavors.

Wash celery sticks and strip out the longer, tougher fibers if you wish. Cut them into thirds, and then scrap cream cheese, peanut butter, or hummus down the center of the celery. These are ultra-quick, tasty, and refreshing due to the water content of the celery.

Passion Fruit Twist

Cut a passion fruit in half and using a spoon, scrap the flesh and seeds away from the skin. Drizzle a spoon of honey and a spoon of tahini over the flesh, mix gently and then spoon out and eat. When mixed gently, this snack is not too messy and packaging free, so it can be made on-the- go!

Ham And Cheese Rolls

Take a slice of ham, spread thinly with cream cheese and sprinkle over with chopped gherkin. Roll up into a cylinder, and if you’re not eating it immediately, pin in place with a cocktail stick. High in protein and very tasty, this satisfying snack will keep you going through an afternoon of back-to-back meetings.

Most people looking for a healthy snack tend to turn to nuts. Even though they’re definitely better than Pringles and Doritos, that doesn’t automatically mean they’ll do wonders for your health. Nuts can be a pretty good go-to snack, but only if you keep these three things in mind.

Fat & Calorie Content

Nuts are definitely healthier than most other snacks that you’d be eating otherwise, but it’s important to keep in mind they have very high fat and calorie content. The number varies between certain types of nuts, but most of them contain 500-700 calories per 100 grams.

Practice Moderation

Due to their high fat and calorie content, nuts are best eaten in moderation. Keep portion sizes small, and if you’re struggling to keep on snacking, avoid eating them directly from the bag so you wouldn’t go overboard. Measure the portion beforehand and try to stick to it.

Roasted and Flavored

Dry-roasted, salted, flavored, or honey-roasted nuts can taste quite delicious, but they won’t do your health any favors. Extra sodium and sugar that they contain can significantly decrease their healthy properties, so it’s best to eat them plain or fry or roast them on your own.

Fall is here and one of Americans’ most beloved pastimes as the weather starts to cool down and the leaves change is venturing north to see the foliage. Whether you’re planning travels a few months in advance or throwing together a last-minute trip, you’ll want to be prepared, especially when it comes to food. We’ve spent our fair share of time on the road, and in our experience, there are a few types of snacks that never disappoint. Here are the ones we always have on hand during road trips.

Cut Fruit & Veggies

Fresh fruit and vegetables are some of our favorite healthy things to snack on, but it’s less than ideal to have to figure out what to do with apple cores and banana peels when you’re finished eating—not to mention they can start to smell after a while. Save yourself the trouble by cutting up your favorite produce in advance and packing it in some Tupperware. Sprinkle apples with a little lemon juice to keep them from going brown. 

Roasted Chickpeas

A healthier alternative to potato chips, roasted chickpeas are high in fiber and protein, so they’re a great option for staying full and satisfied between pit stops. We love the brand Biena for both sweet and savory varieties.

Popcorn

High in fiber and low in calories (so long as it’s not doused in butter), popcorn is one of our favorite healthy snack options to take with us on the road. You can definitely make your own, but we love the brand Lesser Evil for an organic option available in fun flavors.

Celery Sticks

Wash celery sticks and strip out the longer, tougher fibers if you wish. Cut them into thirds, and then scrap cream cheese, peanut butter, or hummus down the center of the celery. These are ultra-quick, tasty, and refreshing due to the water content of the celery.

Passion Fruit Twist

Cut a passion fruit in half and using a spoon, scrap the flesh and seeds away from the skin. Drizzle a spoon of honey and a spoon of tahini over the flesh, mix gently and then spoon out and eat. When mixed gently, this snack is not too messy and packaging free, so it can be made on-the- go!

Ham And Cheese Rolls

Take a slice of ham, spread thinly with cream cheese and sprinkle over with chopped gherkin. Roll up into a cylinder, and if you’re not eating it immediately, pin in place with a cocktail stick. High in protein and very tasty, this satisfying snack will keep you going through an afternoon of back-to-back meetings.

Once we start eating that food, it activates the pleasure parts of our brains and we want more and more until there’s no more left.
