We all have days when we just want to be left alone with junk food in front of the TV, but that one small bag of chips can quickly turn into a binging episode and leave us feeling awful. There’s a reason why we just can’t stop eating certain foods— it’s because they’re literally designed for that. Here’s what else you need to know about this vastly complex topic.

Understanding Processed Food

Processed food manufacturers are investing millions in research that enables them to get the perfect formula for making addictive food. Simply put, they need to get the perfect ratio of the following components: sugar, salt, fat, and carbs. Once we start eating that food, it activates the pleasure parts of our brains and we want more and more until there’s no more left.

This food is typically nutrient-poor and won’t satisfy your hunger in a real way, which means you will feel hungry soon after eating it, but your stomach will be full at the same time. It inevitably leads to feeling awful and is the main cause of obesity in today’s society. The moral of the story? Know what you’re eating, and know when it isn’t giving you what you need.
