Most people looking for a healthy snack tend to turn to nuts. Even though they’re definitely better than Pringles and Doritos, that doesn’t automatically mean they’ll do wonders for your health. Nuts can be a pretty good go-to snack, but only if you keep these three things in mind.
Fat & Calorie Content
Nuts are definitely healthier than most other snacks that you’d be eating otherwise, but it’s important to keep in mind they have very high fat and calorie content. The number varies between certain types of nuts, but most of them contain 500-700 calories per 100 grams.
Due to their high fat and calorie content, nuts are best eaten in moderation. Keep portion sizes small, and if you’re struggling to keep on snacking, avoid eating them directly from the bag so you wouldn’t go overboard. Measure the portion beforehand and try to stick to it.
Roasted and Flavored
Dry-roasted, salted, flavored, or honey-roasted nuts can taste quite delicious, but they won’t do your health any favors. Extra sodium and sugar that they contain can significantly decrease their healthy properties, so it’s best to eat them plain or fry or roast them on your own.
