]]>If you want to move the odds in your favor and be able to pick out the best watermelon every time, there are the things you need to pay attention to.
Great melons are always uniformly shaped regardless of whether they are round or oval. Avoid watermelons that have some bumps or dents on them.
If the watermelon seems small but heavy, it’s the one you should go for. This usually means more sweetness and water.
The spots on the watermelon are also a great way to figure out what’s inside. The yellow spots are good, as they indicate that the watermelon is quite ripe. The white spots mean the opposite.
The overall color of the watermelon is a great way to see if it’s ripe. The watermelons with dark green color are ripe, while the ones that seem bright and almost shiny are unripe in most cases.

]]>If you want to stop your watermelon from losing its sweetness, cutting it into halves or quarters is your best option. If you go down this road, make sure to cover the pieces with plastic wrap unless you want them to pick up odors from other refrigerated foods.
Not everyone has a fridge that’s big enough to store large watermelon pieces. If that’s the case with you, cut your watermelon into smaller slices, and store them inside an airtight container for up to four days.
Watermelon slices can be kept in the freezer for up to six months, in case you want to save them for colder seasons. You probably won’t be able to eat them afterward, since they’ll be soft and mushy, but you can use them to make smoothies or ice cream.

]]>Try these fruits, which are full of water, in order to help yourself keep hydrated all day long.
It isn’t surprising that watermelon is packed with H2O, is it? Containing up to 92% water by weight, watermelon is a healthy snack that gives you a hydration and sugar boost to keep you going throughout the day.
One of our favorite fruits to eat in the morning to help us get hydrated is grapefruit. Containing the same proportion of water to watermelon, you can’t go wrong with grapefruit.
Cantaloupe is a member of the same fruit family as watermelon, and it’s also completely packed with water. Nine-tenths of a piece of cantaloupe consists of water, and you’ll find that it’s another great hydration alternative.

One of the best fruits for freezing is watermelon. The high water content of this traditional summer melon (over 90%!) makes it super easy to freeze into a refreshing and cooling fruit pop. Yum!
Are you looking for a sweet and tropical frozen fruit pop this summer? Buy a fresh pineapple, cut it into chunks, and enjoy the delicious flavor of frozen pineapple!
Strawberries are a little different than the first two fruits mentioned here, as you don’t have to cut them up in order to enjoy them as a frozen fruit treat. Just stick a toothpick or a small stick into a whole strawberry, place into the freezer, and then enjoy!

Try out these next three items on your grill the next time you find yourself cooking outside.
That’s right. This beloved summer fruit can be turned into something completely different when you prepare slices of it on the grill. The smoky flavor of the grill creates a fascinating flavor combination when combined with watermelon, turning into a perfect sweet and savory side dish.
Looking for a hearty grill option that’s meatless? Grilling whole mushrooms like portobellos can be the perfect option for you. Grilled mushrooms seasoned with garlic and olive oil are sure to be a hit for vegetarians and non-vegetarians alike at your next barbecue.
Another fruit that’s delicious when grilled is pineapple. Adding heat to this fruit actually caramelizes some of its sugars, turning its flavor into an even more intense experiment. You can eat it on its own, or even top hamburgers with it!
