Holidays are special because of the good that goes along with them. For the Jewish festival of Shavuot, that means dairy. Think pastas, salads, and most importantly, cheesecake! While you can never go wrong with a classic cheesecake, these fancy versions will definitely be the highlight of any meal this season.

Chocolate and Raspberry

Chocolate cheesecake, while delicious, can be quite rich. We would never want you to skip out on any chocolatey goodness, which is why pairing it with raspberry is the perfect idea. The tartness of the berries will make the chocolate even better.

Salted Caramel Pretzel

Sweet and salty is a combo that we are happy to have over and over. Drizzle the finished cheesecake with a sticky caramel sauce and top it off with crushed pretzels to give it some crunch.

Matcha Tea

Go green with this gorgeous matcha cheesecake. The green tea powder is filled with antioxidants, meaning you could go so far as to call this dessert healthy! Swirling the matcha powder through the cheesecake batter will also give the cake a stunning marble effect.

Peanut Butter and Chocolate

If you’re a fan of Reese’s Pieces, you already know how awesome this flavor pairing is. Mix peanut butter into the batter of your cheesecake and throw in a generous amount of chocolate chips.

Indulging in desserts doesn’t have to mean sacrificing your health goals. With a few simple tweaks and ingredient substitutions, you can create delicious and healthier versions of your favorite sweet treats. Of course, this is a lot easier said than done, but if you follow these tips closely, you’ll be on the correct track.

Choose Nutrient-Rich Ingredients

Opt for ingredients that provide added nutritional value. Instead of refined sugars, use natural sweeteners like honey, maple syrup, or dates. Swap all-purpose flour with whole wheat flour or almond flour for added fiber and nutrients. Incorporate fruits, such as berries or mashed bananas, for natural sweetness and added vitamins.

Reduce Added Fats

Many dessert recipes call for high amounts of butter or oil. You can reduce the fat content by replacing some or all of it with healthier alternatives. Applesauce, mashed avocado, or Greek yogurt can be used as substitutes for butter or oil in certain recipes. These alternatives maintain moisture and richness while reducing the overall fat content.

Portion Control

Practice portion control when enjoying desserts. Instead of indulging in large servings, savor smaller portions and focus on quality. Use smaller plates or bowls to create the illusion of a fuller portion. Pair your desserts with fresh fruits or a small scoop of low-fat frozen yogurt to enhance the nutritional value and satisfy your sweet tooth.

Chocolate mousse is one of those desserts that can seem basic, but if done right, it’s pure indulgence! The trick to perfect chocolate mousse is using good quality chocolate. And, of course, it doesn’t hurt to add a topping of your choice!

Ingredients:

  • 8 ounces semi-sweet dark chocolate, broken into 1/2-inch pieces
  • 6 large eggs, separated
  • 6 tablespoons granulated sugar, divided
  • 2 cups heavy cream
  • ¼ cup sweet liqueur (such as Chartreuse, amaretto, mandarin, or Grand Marnier)
  • 3 tablespoon water
  • Whipped cream and grated chocolate, for garnish

Instructions:

  1. Break the chocolate into ½-inch pieces and place in the top of a double boiler over simmering water. Cook over low heat, stirring occasionally, until the chocolate is melted. Remove from the heat, and set aside.
  2. Place the egg yolks and 3 tablespoons water in a heavy saucepan. Cook over very low heat, whisking vigorously and constantly for about 6 minutes, until the yolks begin to foam and thicken. Whisk in the liqueur, and cook, whisking constantly, until the sauce thickens enough to coat the back of a spoon. Remove from the heat and pour the mixture through a fine wire-mesh strainer into a bowl. Discard any solids bits.
  3. Fold the melted chocolate into the sauce. Transfer the chocolate mixture to a large bowl and set aside.
  4. Beat the cream with an electric mixer on high speed for 2-3 minutes until stiff peaks to form. Beat in 2 tablespoons of sugar toward the end. Fold it into the chocolate mixture.
  5. Using the electric mixer, whisk the egg whites on high speed for around 1 minute, until soft peaks start to form. Beat in the remaining ¼ cup of sugar, and continue beating until stiff peaks form. Fold into chocolate-cream mixture.
  6. Spoon the mousse into a bowl, and chill between 4 and 24 hours, until ready to serve. Garnish with whipped cream and grated chocolate.

In the heart of London’s hip SoHo area lies a lovely bakery called Crumbs and Doilies, where the baker known on YouTube as Cupcake Jemma develops her new recipes. With over two million subscribers, Cupcake Jemma has some of the most amazing and creative baking recipes on YouTube. She has developed some amazing versions of brownies that combine brownies with such desserts as cookie dough, shortbread, and even pecan pie. Here are some of her best.

Chocolate Pecan Pie Brownie

With Thanksgiving coming into view, you might be looking for a fresh take on the classics. This pecan pie brownie uses a layer of shortbread, a layer of brownie, and a layer of caramel pecan topping to breathe new life into a classic Thanksgiving dessert.

Caramel Cornflake Brownie

Cereal is a great and underrated treat, as it adds lots of crunch (and a little extra flavor) to a dessert. This recipe uses a layer of caramel and cereal which is even thicker than the brownie itself for a combo cereal-bar-and-brownie slice.

Biscoff S’mores Brownie

This delicious take on s’mores uses a Biscoff cookie crust, a layer of brownie and cookie butter, and a top layer of Italian meringue as the “marshmallow”. It’s all topped off with chunks of cookie for a caramelly, fall-appropriate treat.

Kugel, a traditional Ashkenazi Jewish dish, is the kind of dessert that is both so delicious and so unhealthy that you appreciate it even more every time you have it. Essentially a baked egg noodle pudding casserole, it’s sweet, crunchy, and easy to make. Plus, it’s pretty much a guaranteed favorite for adults and children alike, making it a great dessert to bring to a gathering or dinner party. Here is how to make it.

Ingredients

  • Wide egg noodles
  • Eggs
  • Sugar
  • Butter
  • Cinnamon
  • Oil
  • Cottage cheese
  • Sour cream

Directions

Preheat your oven to 350 degrees.

While the oven preheats, cook your egg noodles. Boil lightly salted water and add the noodles, cooking until they are tender but not too soft. Drain and return the cooked noodles to the pot.

In a bowl, combine eggs, sugar, butter, cinnamon, cottage cheese, and sour cream. Once it’s well combined, add it to the noodles and mix until the noodles are well coated.

Oil a baking dish. Add the noodle mixture. Bake for about an hour until golden brown.

Alternatively, if you like your kugel even crispier, you can fry it on a pan over medium-high heat, flipping it over once each side is golden brown and crispy.

Who doesn’t love a banana split? This classic summer dessert is made with bananas and ice cream and it’s universally loved by kids and adults equally. If you want to make a more fun version of it that’s great for limiting portion sizes (think little kids’ parties or when you’re on a diet), these adorable sticks are just what you’re looking for.

Banana split on a stick is a healthier version of the popular dessert. Instead of using flavored syrups, it uses real fruit, and instead of ice cream, you can use dark chocolate that will harden in the fridge. There’s less sugar in it and it’s more fun to eat, which makes it even better than the original. It’s a great way to get your kids to eat some fruit if they are picky eaters.

How do you make a banana split on a stick? Get some wooden skewers and slice your bananas, strawberries, and pineapple to get the same-sized slices. Place the fruits on the skewers and dip in some dark chocolate. You can finish the dessert with some crunched nuts or colorful sprinkles before placing it in the fridge to cool down.

You can eat them straight from the skewers, without additional dishes or utensils.
