Despite being a simple and tasty dish, frying eggs can be frustrating if you don’t know the proper technique for doing so. Many breakfasts have been ruined in the past when cooks weren’t sure of the best technique for frying an egg. It’s important not to break the yolk and not to burn the egg white, but how can we be sure to do it correctly? Here are some tips.

Coat the Pan With Butter or Olive Oil

No matter what type of fried egg that you want to make, a crucial first step is to coat your pan with either butter or olive oil. This ensures that the egg won’t get stuck to the pan, an issue that has frustrated lots of people trying to make breakfast.

Don’t Flip the Egg

Believe it or not, fried eggs usually turn out better if you don’t flip them. Flipping can cause the yolk to break, ruining your eggs. Instead, cover the egg if you want to cook the yolk more thoroughly.

Lower the Heat

Don’t make fried eggs at a too-high temperature! While the pan should be hot to start out with, lower the temperature to medium-low while the egg cooks. This will allow the egg to cook thoroughly while not burning.

Just when you thought butter was a simple thing, we’re here to prove you otherwise. Butter is such an important ingredient, and sometimes the temperature really does matter! Here’s why you need to keep your butter in the right spots for optimal baking and cooking.

Room Temperature

Though this can freak out a lot of people, if you put good butter out on a dish with a lid, as long as it’s not boiling hot in your house for days on end, your health will not be at risk. The reason why you need room temperature butter, besides avoiding sad torn pieces of bread and toast, is for baking. Most recipes will call for softened butter and if you don’t have that, prepare to wait up to an hour to get it to the consistency you need, and no one has time for that!

Freezer

There are two reasons and ways to keep butter in the freezer. If you’re not a huge butter user but you still want to keep it in the house, put it straight into the freezer from the grocery store. It’ll keep for anywhere from six to nine months so you have a lot of time to play with. Also, you should also cube and store butter in the freezer for things like sauces, pie doughs, and other baking needs.

Preparing pasta might seem like a simple exercise, but the reality is that great care must be taken in order to ensure that your noodles turn out properly-cooked and ideally prepared for consumption.

Amateur chefs often have trouble with this seemingly simple task. Here are some tips that will help you master the art of boiling pasta.

Boiling It For Too Long

One mistake that is far too easy to make is boiling for pasta for too much time. It’s far too common for people to leave their pasta boiling in water, get distracted by something else, and forget about it while it turns mushy and inedible. Depending on the pasta, 3-6 minutes is best.

Not Adding Salt

Anyone who’s ever grown up with an Italian grandmother will know that you absolutely must add salt to your pasta water before boiling! This allows the noodles to soak up a bit of saltiness and also keeps them from sticking together.

Not Stirring Gently

It’s very important to gently stir your pasta while it’s boiling to be sure that all of the noodles are cooked evenly and thoroughly. In addition, this also helps to keep the noodles from sticking together.

Growing herbs at home is so in vogue these days. As more and more people recognize the value of fresh, home-grown herbs and the flavor and scent boost that they can give to a wide variety of dishes, it’s becoming more and more common to grow these small plants at home.

Do you live in an apartment or in a place where you might not be able to grow these herbs outside? No worries! Here are three herbs that are easy to grow in your own home.

Parsley

Parsley, a Mediterranean herb that is aromatic and delicious, can easily be grown at home. All you have to do is place this herb in a spot that receives sunlight, such as next to a window and keep the soil moist regularly.

Basil

Ever dreamed of making your own home-made pesto? Start growing your own basil at home! All you need is a warm place inside of your residence that receives plenty of sunlight. Keep the soil moist by watering every day or two and you will find that basil is an easy option to grow at home.

Rosemary

Of all the herbs on Earth, we love the smell of rosemary the most. Be sure not to overwater this plant or place it in a dark place, as this will prevent its growth. With a little bit of attention and care, you’ll be able to add fresh rosemary to your dishes, making a stunning statement.

It’s undeniable that getting to work in the kitchen can be a stressful proposition. From complicated recipes that seem impossible for a single person to annoying timers going off, kitchen isn’t always as idyllic as it seems on television or in the movies.

It’s so important to keep calm in the kitchen, however, as preparing food is supposed to be about enjoyment! No one cooks in order to feel stress, but that can seem downright impossible if you’re short on time or patience.

So, if you’ve found yourself under too much stress in the kitchen lately, I have a proposition for you. Why not listen to classical music while in the kitchen to maintain a calm state and to help you stay comfortable and happy?

Classical music boosts focus and relaxation when performing other mentally-demanding and stressful tasks such as studying, and these effects carry over to the kitchen. Go to a Michelin-starred restaurant and you’re very likely to hear the sounds of Bach or Vivaldi piping into the kitchen through the speakers.

Another advantage of classical music is the creativity it inspires. Instead of listening to boring and repetitive pop music melodies, the intricacy and complexity of classical music just might bring out kitchen talents that you never knew you had!

Try out classical music in your kitchen. You might be surprised at how much it helps.

Avocados are one of the most popular foods around the world right now. They’re incredibly versatile, working for foods as varied as nachos to your morning slice of toast (especially if you’re a millennial!).

Avocado veterans and newcomers alike can sometimes be flummoxed, nonetheless, by the strange shape and giant seed in the middle of this fruit. How should I cut this thing, anyway?

Fear not. Here’s a guide on how to cut your avocados in the easiest way possible.

1. Make a Vertical Cut Around

Start off by taking a sharp knife and cutting a slice vertically around the entire avocado in order to separate it into two pieces. You should now see an exposed seed and fruit.

2. Stick Your Knife into the Seed

Go ahead, don’t be shy! Take the sharp side of your knife and dive it into the woody seed until it sticks with a thud.

3. Remove the Seed

Now, twist your knife inside of the seed and pull out. The tricky avocado seed will come right out, and you can now discard of it!

4. Make Slices Inside of the Peel

Finally, it’s important to know that it’s way easier to cut an avocado inside of its peel than it is to peel first. Cut your desired slices or chunks and then scoop out with a spoon. It’s that simple!

Panini presses are a very common kitchen accessory nowadays. Consisting of two “grill pieces” that go on top and under the food to cook it, these grills are most commonly used in order to make grilled sandwiches.

However, did you know that these machines have lots of other uses? In fact, the name “panini press” is quite a misnomer considering all of the things that these nifty grills can do.

Here are three recommendations for things to do with your panini press.

Grill Meat

View this post on Instagram

#ad To be honest with you guys, I’m an awful cook. I could literally burn cereal (I wish I was kidding). It’s definitely genetic though because my dad couldn’t cook until I was like 15 (shoutout to him for taking this picture… I know it’s a little blurry… but he was proud of it, so here we are). I remember when I was younger, my dad’s go to was his @georgeforemanco grill. Those that know my dad know he’s a big meat eater (ex-body builder & whatnot), but obviously I’m a vegan, so I thought I would try out some plant-based options on it instead! This week I’ve made tofu chicken & brown sugar plantain quesadillas, veggie burgers, grilled vegetables, grilled “cheese” sandwiches, etc on this grill! All of which turned out fantastic, proving that even cereal-burners like me can use & love this grill! This is the Rapid Grill Series 5-Serving Removable Plate Electric Indoor Grill & Panini Press! The grill plates are removable, which makes it was easier to clean for messy cooks like myself. Perfect for feeding families… or one very hungry millennial. Click the link in my bio to get your own! Available at @walmart! . . . . . . . . . . #georgeforemangrill #georgeforeman #walmart #sponsored #vegan #veganfood #vegansofig #veggie #veggieburger #veganmodel #veganinfluencer #millenials #budget #moving #kitchendecor #kitchen #kitchenappliances #grill #panini #paninipress #influencer

A post shared by Jasmine Millner (@jasminemillner) on

When you think about it, it makes all of the sense in the world to use a panini press to grill meat. Making hamburgers or chicken breasts becomes incredibly easy in a panini press, as the consistent heat on both sides of the meat means that it’ll cook perfectly and safely. Just be sure to clean off the residual juices well once you’re finished!

Make Smashed Potatoes

Have a bunch of new or redskin potatoes and just don’t quite know what to do with them? Baste them in olive oil, salt, and sprinkle herbs on top of them and put them into a panini press after you’ve softened them up! A panini press works perfectly for this.

Reheat Pizza

Ah, there’s nothing quite as satisfying as leftover pizza. Am I the only one that thinks that it tastes even better the second day? If you aren’t into cold pizza, a great way to reheat your pizza and keep it crispy is in a panini press.

It’s okay to just come out and admit it. Working in the kitchen can be time-consuming, and worst of all, just downright stressful.

We often pour our hearts and souls into preparing delicious food methodically without considering how our kitchen exploits can produce lots of stress.

It’s important to do our best to reduce stress in the kitchen so that cooking and eating becomes an enjoyable endeavor. Here are some tips that we recommend to keep yourself relaxed and happy in the kitchen.

Know Your Time Constraints

It goes without saying that you’re going to end up stressed and unhappy if you try to make a five-course meal in 30 minutes. Be sure to know your schedule, and when you’re going to be short on time, and try to plan simpler meals in these spots.

Stay Organized

An organized kitchen is a happy kitchen. If you can’t find where your spices are when trying to cook, you’re going to stress and lose your cool. Be sure to keep your kitchen organized to reduce stress while preparing dishes.

Prepare in Advance When You Can

Work is always easier when you’ve prepared beforehand, and this applies to the kitchen too. Find yourself bored at home? Why not go ahead and chop vegetables for that big recipe that you’re planning to make tomorrow night?

Despite being a relatively simple and straight-forward kitchen device, did you know that there are actually some tricks that you should know in order to get the most out of your kitchen’s cutting board?

As we all know, a cutting board can be used to slice up things such as meat, vegetables, and bread in a kitchen. But did you know that you only need to wash yours with soap after handling raw meat on it?

Washing your board with soap too often can cause the board to shrink or to acquire some of its “flavor.” Try only rinsing your cutting board after handling produce and bread on it to avoid this.

Another important tip for getting out of your cutting board is to use a sharp knife. Using a dull knife will force you to saw at what you’re cutting, which can cause creases and imperfections to form in your board. Be sure to keep your knives sharpened at all times to avoid this.

Finally, did you know that the space for the handle on a cutting board that forms a hollow square has another use?

You can use this hole in the board to scrape off what you’ve cut into a pan or bowl without pieces of the food flying everywhere.

Wasn’t that helpful?

Grill Meat
