An air fryer can make all sorts of different foods extra crispy and delicious, and onion rings fall under that category. If you feel like your air-fried onion rings are missing something, these useful tips will help you take them to the next level.

Use Cooking Spray

If you’re not using any cooking spray when preparing onion rings in the air fryer, it’s time to start. This small change will give this dish the brown color and crispy texture that it’s best known for. To avoid damaging your air fryer, consider using a non-aerosol cooking spray after about half the cooking time.

Don’t Overcrowd Your Basket

Like with all foods cooked inside your air fryer, you’ll have to be really patient with your onion rings. Overcrowding your basket will lead to uneven cooking, so always make sure to arrange your onion rings in a single layer and cook several batches if necessary.

Seasoning Bonanza

Frozen onion rings usually come pre-seasoned, but what if you feel like making your own? If that’s the case, get ready to experiment with seasonings, from garlic powder to chili to take your homemade onion rings to the next level.

Nothing says comfort food like potatoes, in any forms. However, there’s something about roast potatoes that just hits the spot every time, and they’re at their absolute best when they’re crispy on the outside and soft and fluffy on the inside.

The way you cook potatoes really makes all the difference. We all know potatoes are versatile, so if you’re looking for a quick roasted snack, you can use an air fryer. If you have more time on your hands, they’re just as good—if not better—in the oven.

Whichever way you choose to cook them, follow this simple recipe for the fluffiest roast potatoes you’ll ever make.

Ingredients:

  • 3 large potatoes (a floury, starchy type like Russets or Maris Piper)
  • Olive Oil
  • Garlic (cloves or powder)
  • Rosemary
  • Paprika (smoked, if you’d like)
  • Salt
  • Pepper
  • Roast Potato Seasoning (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F, because a super hot oven is the optimal environment for crispy potatoes. If you’re using an air fryer, preheat it at 380°F for 3 minutes.
  2. Chop your potatoes into medium-large chunks. The pieces should be big enough that they’re not all crunch, and not so big that they can’t go crispy and fluffy while cooking.
  3. Parboil the potatoes in a big pot of salty water. Don’t skip this step, because parboiling is the key to getting your potatoes crispy and fluffy at the same time. You’ll know they’re done when they’re tender but not mushy.
  4. If you’re using an oven, pour some oil into your pan whilst the potatoes are parboiling so it’s super hot by the time they go in.
  5. Drain the potatoes and transfer them to a large bowl, or a pot with a lid.
  6. Shake! Give the potatoes a really vigorous shake until the edges are roughened—this is the essential step to give the roasties their famous fluffiness.
  7. Add any seasonings you’d like, and of course a drizzling of oil. We think a generous sprinkle of rosemary and paprika is the perfect flavor combination.
  8. Spread the potatoes out on the pan and use a spoon to pour some of the hot oil over them. Roast for 45-50 minutes, or until they’re crispy and golden.
  9. For air fryer users: place the seasoned spuds in the air fryer basket and cook for 10 minutes, before flipping them and cooking for another 10, until they look perfectly golden.
  10. Enjoy!

Onion rings are one of the most popular side dishes on the market and they’re truly delicious, but that doesn’t necessarily make them healthy. They’re still one of the most popular fast-food items with a long list of unhealthy properties, but there are a few tips and tricks you can use to make them a little bit better.

Try Air Fryer

Homemade onion rings will always be much healthier than the ones you buy, especially if you own an air fryer. Just like most other popular deep-fried foods, onion rings will be healthier and more nutritious if you prepare them inside your air fryer because you won’t have to soak them in oil to make them delicious.

Oven Trick

You don’t have to own an air fryer to put a healthy twist on your onion rings because an oven is all you need. Oven-roasted onion rings are as tasty as it gets, and they also happen to be healthier than other alternatives because they’re not deep-fried.

Dip Choice

If you can’t imagine eating your onion rings without a dip, make sure to choose carefully. Ketchup is one of the most popular options, but it’s often loaded with sugar and artificial flavorings, so make sure to check the label, make your own, or opt for a different dip.

It’s pretty much impossible to name a kitchen tool that experienced a bigger rise in popularity in the past year or two than the air fryer. It can make the cooking process easy, quick, and healthy, and you can use it for all sorts of different dishes. Some of them just happen to be desserts, and here are some of the very best that you can make in this hit kitchen appliance.

Lava Cake

Perfectly soft on the inside and filled with oozing chocolate, lava cake is one of the most delicious desserts on the market. The air fryer will make the prep process even easier and you’ll be truly impressed by the final result.

Churros

Churros are one of the tastiest traditional Spanish desserts, but making a homemade version isn’t an easy task—unless you have an air fryer.

Apple Fritters

An air fryer can put a healthy twist on many popular dishes, and apple fritters are one of the best possible examples. To make them even more delicious, make sure to use cinnamon and ice cream as a topping.

Donuts

Unlike apple fritters, donuts aren’t generally considered a healthy dish, especially if you deep fry them. You can put a healthy twist on them by using an air fryer, and they’ll taste more delicious than ever.

Air fryers are among the most popular appliances right now, but do you know how they work? Do you actually need one and what food can you make in it?

Understanding Air Fryers

The first thing you should know is that air fryers don’t actually fry, they cook the food you put into a perforated basket with hot air. The air force and high temperature make food cook and brown, giving an effect similar to baking.

There are some foods you can’t cook in it, such as onion rings and other foods dipped in liquid batter since the batter will drip through the basket holes. Donuts are out, too.

Going Deeper

People often believe that food prepared in an air fryer is healthier, but is this really true? While most cooking oils are pretty healthy, the only difference the air fryer makes is the number of calories, but it may not be as many calories as you believe. When properly cooked, deep-fried foods don’t absorb a lot of oil, and all you’re left is around 40 calories more per 4-ounce serving, which is honestly not too much.

It’s up to you, of course, but if you want to keep your expectations realistic, it’s important to get as much info as possible before making a decision.

The air fryer is definitely the trendiest kitchen tool of 2022 but it’s just as polarizing as it is popular. Some people swear it’s worth the investment while others believe it’s a waste of money, but you won’t know the truth before you try it. If you’re thinking of buying this kitchen appliance, here are a few things you should take into consideration before welcoming it into your home.

Waste of Space

Air fryers are often considered impractical because they take up a lot of space. Even the smaller models are usually bigger than most other countertop appliances, so you probably won’t use yours on a regular basis if you don’t have enough counter and cabinet space.

Flavor of Food

The air fryer is often hailed as the healthier alternative to deep-frying, but the cooking process is quite different. That’s part of the reason why foods prepared inside it probably won’t taste the same as their deep-fried counterparts, but the change isn’t too drastic once you get used to it.

Smaller Portions

If you fry foods for a larger group of people on a regular basis, the air fryer isn’t the kitchen tool you need. This appliance can’t hold a lot of food at once, so it’s better used to prepare a meal for one or two people, and it’s useless when it comes to larger gatherings—unless you have the patience to fire it up a few times.

Air fryers experienced such a huge boom this year that we’ve seen people make pretty much every dish inside it, from French fries to pasta chips. Unfortunately, some types of food can’t be prepared this way, and popcorn is a bit of a grey area. If you want to make this tasty snack inside your air fryer, here are a few things you should keep in mind.

Small Batches

If you’re thinking of preparing a huge batch of popcorn for your movie night inside an air fryer, think again. Your kernels won’t pop properly if you overcrowd the air fryer, and you should stick to a quarter cup of kernels per session and make your popcorn in several smaller batches.

Patience is Key

A lot of people get an air fryer in the hope it will speed up the cooking process, but that’s far from the truth in the case of popcorn. Depending on the type of your air fryer, it will take between 5 and 10 minutes for your popcorn to pop, so you have to be really patient.

No Harm Done?

Another reason why you should avoid preparing popcorn this way is the potential damage it can do to your air fryer. Tiny and lightweight foods, such as popcorn kernels, may end up lodged inside the heating element of your air fryer, causing a lot of harm along the way.

Cookies are not just a Christmas staple, they’re great all year round. But since it’s now cold outside and we have more time to spend making delicious food for friends and family, it’s not surprising that cookies are on the menu more often. Did you know that you can make them in an air fryer? Here’s how!

Baking cookies in an air fryer is convenient when you don’t want to make a large batch. You can easily make a few cookies and enjoy them while they’re hot without having to turn on the oven and waste all that space in your baking pan.

You can bake cookies in an air fryer in around five minutes, which is around half the time needed for them to bake in the oven. Your cookies will come out crisp on the outside and soft on the outside, which is pretty much the perfect result.

The baking process couldn’t be easier. You should make the cookies from dough just like you always do and bake them at 350°F for five minutes. If you reduce the heat to 325°F and bake them for five minutes, they will come out moist, in case you prefer that. And that’s it!
