Struggling with acid reflux can be extremely uncomfortable, but with the right dietary choices, finding relief is possible! Incorporating low-acid foods into your meals can help prevent heartburn and promote digestive health. Let’s explore some delicious options that are also gentle on the stomach.

Bananas

Bananas stand out among fruits for their low acidity, making them an ideal snack. If you’re on the go or just craving a quick bite at home, this potassium-rich fruit is a great option.

Green Vegetables

Green veggies like broccoli, asparagus, and celery boast minimal acidity levels. Adding these fresh greens to your plate will be tasty, nourishing, and heartburn-friendly.

Fish

Opt for baked, grilled, or poached fish (but make sure to steer clear of frying and fatty sauces). Fish offer various flavorful options while providing essential omega-3 fatty acids for heart and digestive health.

Oatmeal

A bowl of oatmeal is a nourishing, comforting meal option that won’t trigger reflux. Packed with tons of fiber, it keeps you feeling full and satisfied, minus any stomach discomfort.

Lean Poultry

Lean cuts of chicken and turkey (without the skin) are great options if you grill, bake, or steam them. Poultry is a solid protein source that doesn’t exacerbate acid reflux symptoms.

Keeping our fingers and toenails strong and healthy is an often-overlooked part of our health routines. But if you usually work with your hands, are on your feet a lot, or if you enjoy nail art and getting manicures, then it’s important to keep nail health in mind. One way to do this is through diet and nutrition, making sure you get the right vitamins for your nails. Here are a few foods to help.

Protein

Your nails are themselves made of protein, so eating lots of healthy, lean protein is really good for them just the way it’s good for strong bones. Clean, low-fat protein like chicken, fish, and legumes is particularly good for your nails.

Vitamin C

Vitamin C helps your body produce collagen, which strengthens and smooths hair, skin, and nails. For lots of vitamin C, you can eat several fruits and veggies such as strawberries, oranges, kiwi, tomatoes, and bell peppers.

Eggs

Eggs have a host of nutrients that are beneficial to nail health as well as general health. Aside from protein, they also contain vitamin A, vitamin E, biotin (which promotes nail thickness and prevents splitting), B12, and are an amazing source of vitamin D in particular. All these nutrients work in harmony to give you strong, smooth nails.

From time to time, all of us skip meals, but it’s really not a good idea to do it regularly. Whether it happens to you because of your busy schedule or intentional intermittent fasting schedule, your body will suffer some consequences.

Energy Level Drop

In the most basic sense, food is fuel for your body. When you don’t provide food, your body starts losing energy and performing ordinary tasks may become a problem. Moreover, when you start running low on glucose, you start craving sugar and carbs, the very things you should avoid if you want lasting energy and nutrition.

Likely to Eat Unhealthy Foods

When you skip a meal and become very hungry, you don’t want to deal with cooking or making something healthy. All you want is something convenient that will help provide you some energy fast, and that’s usually something sugary or filled with carbs. However, foods that raise your energy levels fast will not give you lasting effect and you’ll soon be hungry again, eventually intaking more calories than your body needs.

As people try to eat less meat and animal products, we witness new diet trends more often than ever. One of the latest popular topics is the fruitarian diet. It all started back in 2013 when Ashton Kutcher practiced it to lose weight in order to play Steve Jobs in a movie.

It’s been 7 years since then, and the popularity of raw food diets is only rising. The fruitarian diet can be described as a raw vegan way of eating that is mostly based on fruits.

What Can You Eat?

This diet is predominantly based on fruit. Your nutritionist will help you figure out what kinds of fruits to have, in order to include healthy fats, vitamins, minerals, antioxidants. Another group of food you’re allowed to have is nuts and seeds, but in smaller portions. Some fruitarians also include vegetables as a part of their daily nutrition.

Following this diet is not the best idea to do in the long term. Always consult with a professional before deciding to change your eating habits. The thing about fruitarians is that they do not get all the necessary nutrients a body needs just from fruit and it’s definitely not meant for everyone.

If Dry January isn’t your cup of tea and you don’t like not being able to have a drink during the whole month, perhaps you can give another thing a try. Veganuary is a great way to kick start the new year and do something good for your body. We’re already used to coming up with resolutions and trying new things in January, so this year, you can try going vegan for the month.

Veganuary was first launched in 2014, and according to the program’s U.S. director Wendy Matthews, 2019 was its most successful year “with more than a quarter of a million people [taking] our pledge to try a vegan diet,” as she told The Washington Post

Veganuary can be a great way to detox your body if you’re an avid meat-eater. You can use it as a chance to see if vegan food works for you and your body and, who knows, perhaps you’ll stick to a vegan diet beyond the month of January!

If you’re curious to learn how caffeine affects your appetite – if it increases or decreases it – you can just look at some studies that researched this. One of them, conducted in 2014 by a group of researchers in Germany and Austria, showed that caffeine curbs hunger by increasing serotonin and decreasing ghrelin. The participants of this study lost body fat during the study (four weeks).

However, a 2016 study used mice to show that caffeine intake actually increases food intake, which led the researchers to conclude that caffeine increases appetite.

While science is still unsure about it, most people in real life find that caffeine helps them eat less overall. Note that this is not true with coffee drinks that are high in sugar, such as popular lattes with cream and syrup.

Fasting is one of the most popular dietary trends right now, but that doesn’t necessarily mean it’s universally good and suited for everyone. If you want to know if fasting is the right choice for you, keep reading.

There are many alleged benefits of fasting. People believe that it can boost weight loss, provide mental clarity, and even have an anti-aging effect. Various types of fasting are used for achieving these effects. Some people only eat one meal per day, others eat within a certain time frame and fast for the rest of the day, while some have one or two days in a week where they don’t eat at all. But is fasting universally good?

https://www.instagram.com/p/B3etDG7JTyX/

The simple answer is that it’s not. Also, it’s a bit more complicated than skipping meals to save calories. There are some indicators that fasting may be good for you, and they mostly revolve around lifestyle and habits.

You’re more likely to be successful with fasting if you’re single, don’t have children, don’t have a job where you can’t afford to be at low performance, you already exercise, and have a balanced diet. People who have high-responsibility jobs, kids, and partners who aren’t dieting may find it much harder to adapt and reap the benefits of fasting.

You’re Constantly Tired

Carbs are the primary source of fuel for your whole body, so if you don’t eat enough of them you’ll end up feeling tired all the time. Of course, this doesn’t mean you should load up on sugar and white bread, because the effects of these so-called simple carbs are short-term and you’ll soon feel hungry and tired again.

Bloating

Carbs are often considered “guilty” for causing bloating, but that’s only true if your carbs come from white flour and refined sugars. If you reduce all carbs to the minimum you’ll also reduce the amount of fiber you intake, which will cause bloating.

You Can’t Focus

Carbs are very important for your brain, so if you can’t focus on work or on any other task, have some whole-wheat bread or sweet potatoes for lunch and you’ll see the improvement instantly.

A new study published in The Lancet Diabetes & Endocrinology showed that people on the calorie-restriction diet managed to lose weight and improve health at the same time.

The lead author, Dr. William E. Kraus, says that “Cutting 300 calories is very doable. The message from this paper is: Anything is better than what we’re doing now. Even more modest caloric restriction may have benefits.”

Calorie-restriction can be combined with intermittent fasting or a Mediterranean diet for better, long-lasting results.

The nutrition experts have been recommending regular meals for such a long time that a different approach may seem counter-intuitive and wrong. But more and more people are finding skipping meals – and fasting for big portions of their days – to be the solution they were looking for the whole time.

There are even studies that back up the positive effects of intermittent fasting on our overall health. The effects go beyond physical – one research conducted at the University of Virginia found that intermittent fasting is a great way to feel more energetic and focused.

Many people are experiencing the positive effects of intermittent fasting in terms of weight loss and maintaining. Eating for 8 hours and fasting for 16 hours per day is a good way to consume fewer calories and to solve weight-related problems.

It should be said that this not a universal solution and that you should monitor your body to see if fasting is a good option for you or not.
