Unless you’re Romanian or grew up with Romanian friends, chances are pretty low that you’ve tried Romanian food. After all, when was the last time you saw a Romanian restaurant in your city? But the truth is that Romanian cuisine is a very interesting one to explore. Here are three dishes we’d recommend starting with.

Sarmale

Looking for some comfort food to make this winter? Sarmale might be the perfect choice. The dish is slow-cooked cabbage rolls stuffed with ground pork and rice. They’re not too difficult to make, but they are time-consuming, so try prepping this dish over the weekend when you have some spare time.

Mămăligă

Essentially the Romanian version of polenta, Mămăligă is cornmeal porridge, traditionally cooked in a round-bottomed kettle called a ceaun. This dish requires few ingredients, making it a great option for those of us who like to cook and eat simple meals.

Ciorbă

A traditional Romanian sour soup, Ciorba actually can be made with different proteins including pork, chicken, beef, fish, and/or a variety of vegetables. Its sourness and acidity usually come from borş (fermented wheat bran), lemon, lemon salt, or sauerkraut juice.

We all have days when we just want to be left alone with junk food in front of the TV, but that one small bag of chips can quickly turn into a binging episode and leave us feeling awful. There’s a reason why we just can’t stop eating certain foods— it’s because they’re literally designed for that. Here’s what else you need to know about this vastly complex topic.

Understanding Processed Food

Processed food manufacturers are investing millions in research that enables them to get the perfect formula for making addictive food. Simply put, they need to get the perfect ratio of the following components: sugar, salt, fat, and carbs. Once we start eating that food, it activates the pleasure parts of our brains and we want more and more until there’s no more left.

This food is typically nutrient-poor and won’t satisfy your hunger in a real way, which means you will feel hungry soon after eating it, but your stomach will be full at the same time. It inevitably leads to feeling awful and is the main cause of obesity in today’s society. The moral of the story? Know what you’re eating, and know when it isn’t giving you what you need.

And there are so many of them out there, some of which are a waste of time and others that can actually make your life better. In this article, we’ll list some food hacks that you’ll want to start using immediately.

  • Did you know that you can keep brown sugar from hardening in the container by adding marshmallows to the box?
  • To keep leafy green vegetables crisp and fresh for longer, store them with a paper towel in their container.
  • If you need to grate ginger for a recipe, freeze it first. This will make it much easier to grate.
  • Swap out milk in recipes like mac and cheese for sour cream for a creamier result.
  • Add olive oil to your pasta to keep it from sticking together.
  • Use mayo instead of butter on the outside of your grilled sandwiches before frying them.
  • When using measuring cups to measure honey, spray the cup first with a non-stick cooking spray.
  • Chill wine with frozen grapes instead of ice cubes to avoid watering it down.

There are tons of awesome recipes using this nutritious root vegetable. It adds vibrant color and tons of health benefits to whatever dish it’s included in. Here are some awesome ways to include more beets in your diet.

Gnocchi

Our favorite Italian dumplings get a splash of gorgeous purple with this delicious roasted beet. This works as the perfect romantic meal for you and your loved one or a sure show-stopper to feed guests at an event.

Hummus

Just when you thought there was no way to make hummus any tastier, beet hummus came along. Roasted beets make classic hummus even creamier, sweeter and healthier. Add a spoonful to a salad or serve it as a beautiful spread for veggies and pita.

Pizza

Pizza is already stunning on its own. But when a few roasted beets are thrown into the homemade crust to give it a gorgeous magenta color and earthy flavor, you just won’t be able to take your eyes off it.

Brownies

It’s not only salty recipes that really benefit from beets. Brownies made with beets are fudgy and full of healthy nutrients. Your kids won’t taste the difference!

From time to time, all of us skip meals, but it’s really not a good idea to do it regularly. Whether it happens to you because of your busy schedule or intentional intermittent fasting schedule, your body will suffer some consequences.

Energy Level Drop

In the most basic sense, food is fuel for your body. When you don’t provide food, your body starts losing energy and performing ordinary tasks may become a problem. Moreover, when you start running low on glucose, you start craving sugar and carbs, the very things you should avoid if you want lasting energy and nutrition.

Likely to Eat Unhealthy Foods

When you skip a meal and become very hungry, you don’t want to deal with cooking or making something healthy. All you want is something convenient that will help provide you some energy fast, and that’s usually something sugary or filled with carbs. However, foods that raise your energy levels fast will not give you lasting effect and you’ll soon be hungry again, eventually intaking more calories than your body needs.

Nearly all of our favorite meals would be completely different if it weren’t for herbs and spices. Some cuisines rely on them so much that their food would become completely unrecognizable in case they stopped using them. Food without herbs and spices is often bland and boring. Spices were even used in ancient Egypt and scientists have reasons to believe they existed for over 3,000 years.

But the definitions of herbs and spices can be confusing, which is why it’s difficult to determine the differences between them. Herbs are produced by herb plants and typically the leaves of those plants are used in the culinary world as herbs. Those leaves can be fresh or dried, whole or chopped, and the flavor they offer is relatively subtle.

~ ~~~ Spices ~~~ Spices are extremely taste enhancing, rich in flavour, bright in colour, as well as being individually powerful, with many medicinal advantages due to their ability to produce anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, antimicrobial, antifungal and antioxidant compounds. This includes vitamins and minerals, which are: • Beta-carotene • Ascorbic acid (vitamin C) • Calcium • Flavonoids • Fibre • Iron • Niacin • Potassium • Zinc and are rich in phytochemicals. ~~~ An overall example of the benefits of spices are: • Digestive disorders • Weight management • Diabetes • Lowering blood sugar levels • Some can improve brain function and memory • May help to reduce nausea • Fight infections • Prevent allergies • Help rid of H, pylori • Improve Cardiovascular health. ~~~ They all act differently and are effective, some you would combine in order to be better absorbed by the body. ~~~ Some spices increase the hydrochloric secretion of the stomach which produces blood flow and mucus lining. ~~~ They are a phenomenal contribution to health and wellness that go beyond seasoning food. . . . . #spices #indianspices #moroccanspices #freshspices #healthyspices #healingspices #spicesandherbs #herbsandspices #organicspices #spicesofindia #healthtips #holisticproducts #holisticwellness #holisticlife #holistichealth #holisticnutrition #holistichealing #holisticlifestyle #antioxidants #antibacterial #antiinflammatory #antifungal #antimicrobial #betacarotene #niacin #allergies #potassium #weightlosstips #zinc #calcium

On the other hand, spices are usually made of seeds, fruits, fruits, or flowers of plants. They come in many different colors, such as red, brown, and yellow, while herbs are mostly green. The same plant can provide both herbs and spices.

When you don’t know who to listen to when it comes to food-related topics, Ina Garten is a safe bet. A self-taught cook and the host of the Food Network program Barefoot Contessa revealed what are the items she has in her freezer at all times.

Vodka

Vodka has a very low freezing point, so storing it in the freezer makes perfect sense. It’s a good idea to always have it for cocktail parties and entertaining. And Garten knows that you should always serve your vodka cold.

Vanilla Ice Cream

We don’t doubt that Garten knows how to make a perfect vanilla ice cream, but she often doesn’t bother because she can just have a perfect vanilla ice cream conveniently stocked in the freezer. Why vanilla? Well, it pairs beautifully with many desserts, and the taste can easily be upgraded by adding a few other ingredients.

Bread

Whether she makes or buys her breath, Garten cuts it into slices and wraps it tightly to store in the freezer. That way, the desired amount can be easily defrosted and toasted as needed.

While I was walking the souks (traditional markets) in Marrakech I fell in love with the stalls oferring herbs and spices of so many bright colours🧡💛💚💙❤ So it’s not hard to guess what my souvenir from Morocco is. Tell me what would be yours?😉 There are more than 3000 stalls in Marrakech medina selling everything from tagines, lamps and Berber carpets to scarves, spices and Moroccan pastries. The souks are crazy, chaotic and stressfull and you will for sure get lost and you will have to bargain, but it’s the best way how to see the real Marrakech🇲🇦 TIP: The souks are opened from 8:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. but most of them are closed on Fridays❀ . . #souksofmarrakech#travelmorocco#feelmorocco#unlimitedmorocco#lovemarrakech#moroccotravel#exploremorocco#visitmarrakech#instamarrakech#morocco_vacations#discovermorocco#instamorocco#inmarrakech#mydearmorocco#simplymorocco#northafrica#colourful#travelmorocco#inmorocco#travelpassion#moroccanspices#marrakeshstyle#herbsandspices#sheisnotlost#medinamarrakech#marrakechcity#moroccostyle
