What It Is

Raw honey could be best described as the purest form of honey there is. The honey manufacturers just pour the honey straight from the honeycomb into containers, filtering it just for dead bees or particles of beeswax.

“Regular” honey, on the other hand, goes through several more stages before being packed and sold. After the honey is removed from the honeycomb, it is pasteurized and then filtrated to remove all the impurities.

More Differences

The most obvious difference between raw honey and regular honey is their texture and taste. The regular honey has a liquid and smooth texture. Raw honey, on the other hand, is often crystalized and becomes hard fast. The unprocessed honey also has a more complex taste that is a result of the impurities and remains of pollen.

The more important difference, however, is their nutritional content. Raw honey has an impressive nutritional value that involves amino acids, minerals, vitamins, and antioxidants.

The nutritional value of regular honey, on the other hand, is compromised due to filtration and pasteurization. These methods also remove almost all pollen.

Benefits of Pollen

From viral hits like dalgona coffee and feta pasta to many other amazing recipes and ideas, we can say we’re hooked on trying every new trend that comes up. When it comes to frozen honey, things are somewhat different. We’re not sure that freezing honey should be as popular as it is right now, and here’s why.

You may have seen the videos on TikTok already; they show people freezing honey in plastic containers like water bottles. Once the honey is frozen, you can squeeze it out of the bottle and bite into the solid sweetness. What exactly is wrong with this?

The main problem is that you’ll end up eating excessive amounts of honey this way. Despite being a natural ingredient, honey is basically pure sugar. If you’re trying to keep a healthy diet you’re probably avoiding eating sweets as much as you can. But sometimes it’s very difficult to refuse to have dessert completely, like in a family meal or an event, so we thought of ideas for sweet dishes that taste like decadent treats, but are actually quite healthy: 3 fruits that go great with honey (for vegans, use Maple Syrup or Date Syrup).

Honey Roasted Apples

This is an exercise in changing how we think. The first thought most of us would have when we think of apples and honey in a dish would be an apple crumble cake or apple turnover. The problem is that if you’re trying to keep healthy you’re probably avoiding pastries whenever you can. Try roasting the apples with some honey and mild-flavored oil, they will turn crispy and caramelized on the outside and mushy on the inside. Throw some caramelized nuts on top for the extra crunch.

Baked Figs with Honey

Figs are quite seasonal so to get the full flavor, this dessert if for the summer/early autumn. It’s super simple since it’s simply a matter of cutting the fruit in half and drizzling with honey mixed with some whiskey. Give this treat a twist by putting a leaf of mint as garnish.

Grilled Pineapple with Honey

This is a beautiful dessert. Slice the pineapple to thick slices and let it soak in some lime and then simply place on the grill so that the lines are visible when the meat is cooked and juicy. Drizzle with honey and serve warm.

Honey cake is a delicious sweet to have in your arsenal. The method is super simple and you don’t need to dirty a lot of bowls or know any fancy techniques to master it! This classic Russian cake also has roots in Eastern European Jewish history. Many Jewish people make this cake to celebrate the Jewish New Year, which involves eating a lot of honey that represents having a sweet new year. So, if you want to display something different at the dessert table that is classic but slightly more unusual, make this honey cake.

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350F and grease and flour a cake pan.
  2.  In a bowl, sift together flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, allspice, cloves, and nutmeg. If you don’t have all the spices, use at least cinnamon.
  3. Zest an orange.
  4. In a separate and larger bowl, stir together eggs, honey, oil, sugar, and the orange zest.
  5. With an electric hand mixer or a sturdy whisk, alternately add in the dry flour mixture and orange juice to the wet ingredients. Continue until all the dry ingredients are gone and the batter is well incorporated.
  6. Bake for 40-50 minutes until a toothpick comes out clean.

Melipona honey comes from Melipona bees, also known as stingless bees, that live in Mexico’s Yucatan region. The production of this honey is known as meliponicultura and it’s been around for over 3,000 years.

En los bosques trópicales secos de Colombia se puede encontar una especie de abeja sin aguijón de tamaño mediano llamada popularmente como "carga barro" o "barrera", el nombre científico de esta abeja es Melipona favosa. Las abejas del género Melipona son abejas sociales que se caracterizan por tener alas más cortas que el cuerpo, en aspecto se asemejan un poco a la abeja melifera común (Apis mellifera), el resto de géneros de abejas sin aguijón poseen alas más largas que el cuerpo y cada uno de esos géneros no debe confundirse con el género Melipona. Honey cake is a delicious sweet to have in your arsenal. The method is super simple and you don’t need to dirty a lot of bowls or know any fancy techniques to master it! This classic Russian cake also has roots in Eastern European Jewish history. Many Jewish people make this cake to celebrate the Jewish New Year, which involves eating a lot of honey that represents having a sweet new year. So, if you want to display something different at the dessert table that is classic but slightly more unusual, make this honey cake.

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350F and grease and flour a cake pan.
  2.  In a bowl, sift together flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, allspice, cloves, and nutmeg. If you don’t have all the spices, use at least cinnamon.
  3. Zest an orange.
  4. In a separate and larger bowl, stir together eggs, honey, oil, sugar, and the orange zest.
  5. With an electric hand mixer or a sturdy whisk, alternately add in the dry flour mixture and orange juice to the wet ingredients. Continue until all the dry ingredients are gone and the batter is well incorporated.
  6. Bake for 40-50 minutes until a toothpick comes out clean.
