This Moist Honey Cake Could Not Be Easier to Make!

Honey cake is a delicious sweet to have in your arsenal. The method is super simple and you don’t need to dirty a lot of bowls or know any fancy techniques to master it! This classic Russian cake also has roots in Eastern European Jewish history. Many Jewish people make this cake to celebrate the Jewish New Year, which involves eating a lot of honey that represents having a sweet new year. So, if you want to display something different at the dessert table that is classic but slightly more unusual, make this honey cake.

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350F and grease and flour a cake pan.
  2.  In a bowl, sift together flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, allspice, cloves, and nutmeg. If you don’t have all the spices, use at least cinnamon.
  3. Zest an orange.
  4. In a separate and larger bowl, stir together eggs, honey, oil, sugar, and the orange zest.
  5. With an electric hand mixer or a sturdy whisk, alternately add in the dry flour mixture and orange juice to the wet ingredients. Continue until all the dry ingredients are gone and the batter is well incorporated.
  6. Bake for 40-50 minutes until a toothpick comes out clean.
