If you’re a fan of big-batch cold brew coffee, you might be used to buying concentrate in big bottles from the store. Having a bottle of cold brew concentrate in your fridge is super convenient because it lasts a long time and you don’t need to worry about brewing—you simply water it down and drink. But store-bought cold brew can get expensive, and it doesn’t let you customize the coffee to your liking. Here’s how to make your own concentrate to push your coffee game to the next level with the same amount of daily convenience.

Ratio and Grind

Because this is cold brew concentrate, the ratio of coffee to water will be quite high. You can use anywhere from a 1:4 ground coffee to water to a 1:2 ratio if you want it really concentrated. Grind the beans relatively course, around how you’d grind for a French press. If you buy locally and can request grind size, ask for a French press or cold-brew-sized grind. If you are buying your coffee pre-ground, this method will still work fine, but you may find the coffee a bit silty and a bit bitter.

Method

There are many different methods to cold brew, but most of them are some variate of pouring the water over the ground beans and leaving in the fridge for 12-24 hours. The longer you can leave them, the stronger your brew will be (up to 24 hours). Once it’s been long enough, strain your coffee through a cheesecloth or coffee into a jar or bottle. For even simpler cleanup, brew the cold brew directly into a French press, and then simply pour into your jar or bottle. Your cold brew concentrate should last for around 2 weeks at least.

On a hot summer day, nothing hits the spot like some fresh fruit. But when you’re sick of sweetness and you don’t want to just eat raw vegetables, a salad is the next best thing. There’s lots of great options for salads, but you probably want something nice and refreshing, that’s just as juicy as fruit would be. For that craving, the perfect recipe is this easy tomato salad. It’s got a nice kick from garlic and juiciness from cherry tomatoes.

Ingredients

  • Bowlful of cherry tomatoes, rough-chopped
  • 3 or 4 cloves of garlic, finely minced
  • 1 bushel of parsley, chopped
  • 2 tablespoons of olive oil
  • Lemon juice to taste
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Make the Salad

Once you’ve prepared all the ingredients, you’ve already done the easy part! Just combine the tomatoes, parsley, and garlic in a bowl. Then dress the salad with olive oil, lemon juice, salt, and pepper. If you want to spice things up a little more, try mixing in a tablespoon or two of balsamic vinegar. If you wish to add protein, you can also turn this into a twist on a caprese with some fresh mozzarella cheese. Serve as a side dish or as a snack. Enjoy!

When it comes to cocktails and other iced drinks, ice content has a larger effect than you may realize. As the ice melts it dilutes your drink, affecting the taste as you drink it. The shape and texture of ice also have an effect on the experience of drinking, whether you’re chewing up the ice as it melts or simply sipping from the rim of the glass as the ice clinks inside. Here are some different kinds of ice for different types of drinks.

Big Blocks

Big blocks of ice fit one or two to a cup depending on the size of the drink. These are the slowest to melt, so they are the best for when you want to minimize dilution. You’ve probably seen them at bars or on TV in glasses of nice sipping whiskey or other spirits, and indeed this is how they are most often used. But they are also a great option if you are drinking cold-brewed coffee or tea which isn’t very strong, and you want to keep your brew from losing flavor for as long as possible.

Crushed or Pebble

Crushed or pebble ice is best for syrupy drinks, as the ice will soak up the flavor and will dilute faster to dampen the sweetness. Drinks like a mint julep or a heavily-flavored coffee drink are two examples. Think of a snow cone soaking up the flavor and color of whatever you pour on it. This is also the best ice for drinking in hot weather.

Standard

The standard one-inch ice cube is always the best option when you’re in doubt of what ice to use. It’s the most easily available, the standardized cubes mean you can control dilution more easily, and it will fit into any cup you’re using. This is a great option for regular cold brew, iced tea, or a shaken cocktail.

Ah, can you feel that? Spring is just around the corner, promising warmer temperatures, sunny days, and being able to sip a drink outside on the patio after leaving the cold winter behind.

One of our favorite warm-weather drinks is a margarita, a citrus and tequila-based drink that originates from the country of Mexico. We love lining the rim of our margaritas with certain ingredients that add a special flavor touch to them, and there are my suggestions for three that you will love.

Kosher Salt

The classic and most popular rim lining on a margarita is kosher salt, which works to increase the intensity and the savory nature of the drink by imbuing its citrus flavors with greater depth and clarity.

Chile and Lime

Want to kick things up a notch? Why not add a little bit of chili powder and lime peel to the rim of your margarita glass? Citrus and heat work together brilliantly, and this is a great way to put a unique twist on your drink.

Hot Sauce

That’s right: if used in moderation, a small dose of hot sauce such as Cholula or Valentina can provide an exciting jolt of spiciness to your margarita, which works especially well if you use ingredients such as ancho chile bitters in your personal recipe.

When the weather is warm and you just don’t want to drink a hot cup of coffee, cold brew is the perfect option to give you the coffee taste and the caffeine boost that you want.

https://www.instagram.com/p/Bzt0hE4Hlgi/

While most of us opt to go to a coffee shop that has pre-made cold brew ready for us to order, it’s actually super simple to make this refreshing drink at home! Here’s how.

What You’ll Need

  • Cold Water
  • Coarsely-ground coffee
  • A container
  • Cheesecloth

Instructions

To start off, you’ll want to use one ounce of coarsely-ground coffee beans for every cup (8 oz) of water that you use. So, if you want to make a quart (64 oz) of cold brew, you’ll have to use four ounces of coffee!

Start off by taking a recipient that’s large enough for the quantity of cold brew that you’re going to make and pouring in the cold water. Next, you’ll want to add in the coarsely ground coffee beans and stir.

You’ll then cover the recipient with cheesecloth, using a rubber band to secure it along the edges of the opening. Put the recipient in the refrigerator for 12 hours to let the cold brew “steep.”

Finally, after 12 hours, take out the recipient. Use the cheesecloth that was covering the opening to strain the cold brew coffee from the grounds that have been created, placing another container under the flow of the coffee.

That’s it! Your cold brew is ready to drink. Keep it cold in the fridge, and enjoy!

The first thing you think of when you hear Aperol Spritz is definitely Italy. This delicious cocktail is the best way to keep your cool this summer. It’s extremely easy to prepare and with only three ingredients. You will need 5 minutes to get everything done. If you want to bring the taste of Italy in your backyard or do an authentic Italian party for your friends, this drink is all you need.

What is your favorite aperitivo drink? 🍹📸 @noemirizzuti

A post shared by Exploring Italy (@exploring.italy) on

Ingredients

  • 1 bottle Aperol
  • 1 bottle chilled Prosecco
  • ice
  • soda
  • orange slices

Instructions

To prepare this signature Italian cocktail you will need balloon glasses. Another way to go is wine glasses as well.

This recipe is meant for 8 to 11 servings, which means you can enjoy it with your whole family or a group of friends. Simply get the number of glasses that you need and you’re ready to go.

Fill each glass with ice cubes. The Aperol and Prosecco should be in equal parts. Most recipes suggest a ratio of 3:2:1 Prosecco:Aperol:soda, but this one is much more authentic and allows you to better experience the taste of Aperol.

When you’re done with the first step, you can simply top up the glasses with soda. Use the orange slices to decorate the Aperol Spritz.

Summer in Mexico is synonymous with Micheladas. This tart, spicy beer cocktail is a perfect treat for when it’s hot outside.

This cocktail recipe is super-easy to make at home. Here’s how!

Ingredients

  • 1 12-oz bottle or can of cold Mexican light beer (we recommend Pacifico or Tecate)
  • 2 teaspoons Mexican hot sauce (we recommend Cholula)
  • ½ teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • Juice of 2 fresh limes
  • Tajin seasoning
  • One large beer mug
  • Ice

Instructions

Start off by filling a beer mug about one-third of the way full with ice.

Next, you’ll want to rim the edge of the mug with Tajin, a Mexican seasoning that is readily available and contains chili, salt, and lime. If you can’t find Tajin, try mixing about a teaspoon of chili powder with a tablespoon of kosher salt to achieve the same effect.

After you do this, go ahead and pour your can or bottle of Mexican beer into the mug.

The next step is to pour in the Mexican hot sauce and the Worcestershire sauce into the mug. Then, juice the two limes and add them to the beer as fell. Stir gently with a spoon until all of the ingredients are combined well. Garnish with a lime slice if you’re feeling fancy.

Enjoy your Michelada!

During hot summer days, nothing can refresh you as well as a glass of your favorite cold drink. The choice can seem pretty limited if you want to avoid alcohol, caffeine, and sugar, but that doesn’t mean you only have to drink regular water.

Here are two perfect summer beverages that will cool you down without too many additional calories.

Homemade Iced Tea

Enjoy the benefits of herbal teas in their most delicious form — iced tea. You can add fruit, fresh herbs, lemon, and raw honey to improve the flavor and have a new drink every day.

Fresh Juice

A glass of fresh juice can be a great breakfast on the go and can also refresh you in the afternoon. You’ll find the most nutrients in greens like kale and you can always add other fruits and vegetables for flavor and sweetness.
