We’re almost entering summer, aka the official season of iced coffee. While some of us may choose to sip a cold beverage year round, for most of us the warmer, sunnier days spell the start of lazy days in the park, accompanied by a deliciously sweet and cold coffee. You can buy amazing iced coffee out, and sometimes this is more practical—however, it’s a habit that can get expensive. Why not try this recipe, which makes an incredibly iced coffee, and take it with you in a thermos or insulated bottle?

Ingredients (to serve 1):

  • One or two espressos, depending on your preference
  • Ice
  • 2 teaspoons of sugar, or 1 tablespoon of maple syrup
  • 1/3 cup of milk of your choice
  • 2 tablespoons of hot water

Instructions:

  1. Pour the hot water over the sugar or maple syrup, to melt the sweetener. Place in the fridge to cool for 10 minutes.
  2. Make the espressos according to your usual method, you can also allow these to cool while you wait for the sweetened water in the fridge.
  3. Combine the espressos with the water, and add as much ice as you like.
  4. Froth the milk if you want, and then gradually pour it over your coffee.
  5. Enjoy immediately, or transfer into a travel bottle and take it with you on the go!
