Do you like the sound of a tender slice of beef coupled with melted cheese in a succulent sandwich drizzled in au jus sauce? Then a French dip sandwich is certainly for you. Here is how you can prepare this scrumptious and wholesome sandwich for a wholesome meal.

Ingredients:

  • 6 hoagie rolls
  • 12 provolone slices
  • 3 ribeye steaks, boneless
  • 2 teaspoons oregano
  • 2 teaspoons black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon salt
  • 2 cloves garlic
  • 2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 teaspoons thyme
  • 1/4 yellow onion
  • 1 1/2 cups beef broth

Instructions:

  1. Preheat oven to 450°F.
  2. Baste the olive oil all over the steaks before submerging them in a roasting pan.
  3. Mix sage, salt, pepper, and oregano in a small bowl. Massage the mixture into the meat.
  4. Roast the beef in the oven for 20 minutes.
  5. While waiting for the beef to cook, start making the jus.
  6. Start by placing a pan over medium heat and cook onion until soft, for about 3 minutes. Add garlic and thyme, cooking for another minute.
  7. Pour the Worcestershire sauce and beef broth into the pan and cook for 8 to 10 minutes.
  8. Slice beef thinly and cut open the hoagie rolls. Insert the beef and provolone and drizzle in jus sauce, or simply put the sauce on the side for dipping.

The former Rust Belt industrial hub of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania is undergoing a bit of a renaissance lately. This city is starting to have more and more gastronomic offerings and pricey restaurants, reflecting its reality as a dynamic and changing place.

Real Pittsburghers know, however, that the real king of Pittsburgh gastronomy is Primanti Brothers, which makes one of the most unique sandwiches that you’ll find anywhere.

Primanti’s is a Pittsburgh institution that was born in 1933 during the peak of the Great Depression. Workers were looking for a cheap and filling meal, and Joe Primanti and his brothers began selling this packed sandwich in order to fulfill that desire.

These sandwiches can have different meats and cheeses, but what makes them unique is the addition of two unique ingredients: french fries and coleslaw.

The Japanese katsu sando sandwich is a 30-minute recipe you need to try.

Ingredients:

For the tonkatsu sauce:

  • 1 tablespoon oyster sauce
  • 1/4 cup ketchup
  • 1 teaspoon honey
  • 3 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 teaspoons soy sauce

For the sandwich:

  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups panko
  • 1/2 cup Yuzu mayonnaise or regular mayonnaise with 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 4 boneless pork loin chops, 1/2-inch thick
  • 8 white bread slices without crust
  • 1 1/4 teaspoons kosher salt
  • 2 cups finely shredded green cabbage
  • vegetable oil
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • tonkatsu sauce

Instructions:

  • Prepare the sauce by mixing the soy sauce, Worcestershire sauce, oyster sauce, honey, and ketchup.
  • Combine the pepper, 1 teaspoon salt, and flour together. In a second bowl beat the eggs. Get a third bowl and fill it with the panko.
  • Get the pork chops and make sure they are dry. Start dipping them first in the flour, next in the eggs and finally in the panko.
  • Fill a pot with 3 inches vegetable oil. Once the oil is hot at 350 F degrees, start frying the pork chops until done. Top the meat off with 1/4 teaspoon salt.
  • In a bowl combine the mayonnaise and cabbage.
  • Start making the katsu sando sandwich by adding 1 tablespoon of tonkatsu sauce on one side of the bread slices. Add the pork chop on 4 slices bread, add 1/2 cup cabbage and finish off with the remaining bread slices.

Visitors to the country of Portugal might see the word “francesinha” highlighted on a restaurant menu and be tempted to try this plate with a funny name.

“Francesinha” literally translates as “the little frenchie,” so how extreme could it be? Maybe it’s a delicious Franco-Portuguese fusion dish or even a delicious dessert. But it certainly won’t be big.

Well, if you make these assumptions, you’re going to be dead wrong. Why? The francesinha is one of the most over-the-top and absurd sandwiches on the planet. So, what is it?

A francesinha is a sandwich that originated in the city of Porto by an immigrant that returned from France and Belgium in the 1950s. He wanted to adapt the famous croque monseuir sandwich to Portuguese tastes. And boy, did he ever.

A francesinha consists of two pieces of white bread stuffed with ham, linguica and chipolata (two types of special Portuguese sausage), steak, and roast pork. On top, the sandwich is covered with melted white cheese, and also with a rich sauce consisting mainly of tomato and beer. Finally, the last addition on most francesinha is a fried egg on top to complete the insanity.

An egg in the hole is a classic combination of an egg fried inside a hole in a slice of bread! This makes for a scrumptious breakfast, of course, but it also can be the base for a really fun sandwich! So here’s how you make it, and how you can put a spin on it.

To make the traditional egg in the hole, take a piece of bread and cut out a hole in the center using a cookie cutter, shot glass, or whatever you have. Heat up butter in a skillet and put the bread into it. Add a little more butter inside the hole and then crack in the egg into the hole. Season with salt and pepper, wait a couple of minutes, and then flip carefully. Cook for another couple of minutes and you’re done!

After you’ve made the classic, you can then use the bread as the base to a number of sandwiches! You can make another classic like a BLT, or go a cheesy route with various cheeses and veggies.

A really cool thing to do is to make the egg in the hole with a burger bun instead of regular bread to mimic the idea of putting a fried egg on top of a patty!

Real Pittsburghers know, however, that the real king of Pittsburgh gastronomy is Primanti Brothers, which makes one of the most unique sandwiches that you’ll find anywhere.

Primanti’s is a Pittsburgh institution that was born in 1933 during the peak of the Great Depression. Workers were looking for a cheap and filling meal, and Joe Primanti and his brothers began selling this packed sandwich in order to fulfill that desire.

These sandwiches can have different meats and cheeses, but what makes them unique is the addition of two unique ingredients: french fries and coleslaw.

The Japanese katsu sando sandwich is a 30-minute recipe you need to try.

Ingredients:

For the tonkatsu sauce:

  • 1 tablespoon oyster sauce
  • 1/4 cup ketchup
  • 1 teaspoon honey
  • 3 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 teaspoons soy sauce

For the sandwich:

  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups panko
  • 1/2 cup Yuzu mayonnaise or regular mayonnaise with 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 4 boneless pork loin chops, 1/2-inch thick
  • 8 white bread slices without crust
  • 1 1/4 teaspoons kosher salt
  • 2 cups finely shredded green cabbage
  • vegetable oil
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • tonkatsu sauce

Instructions:

  • Prepare the sauce by mixing the soy sauce, Worcestershire sauce, oyster sauce, honey, and ketchup.
  • Combine the pepper, 1 teaspoon salt, and flour together. In a second bowl beat the eggs. Get a third bowl and fill it with the panko.
  • Get the pork chops and make sure they are dry. Start dipping them first in the flour, next in the eggs and finally in the panko.
  • Fill a pot with 3 inches vegetable oil. Once the oil is hot at 350 F degrees, start frying the pork chops until done. Top the meat off with 1/4 teaspoon salt.
  • In a bowl combine the mayonnaise and cabbage.
  • Start making the katsu sando sandwich by adding 1 tablespoon of tonkatsu sauce on one side of the bread slices. Add the pork chop on 4 slices bread, add 1/2 cup cabbage and finish off with the remaining bread slices.

Visitors to the country of Portugal might see the word “francesinha” highlighted on a restaurant menu and be tempted to try this plate with a funny name.

“Francesinha” literally translates as “the little frenchie,” so how extreme could it be? Maybe it’s a delicious Franco-Portuguese fusion dish or even a delicious dessert. But it certainly won’t be big.

Well, if you make these assumptions, you’re going to be dead wrong. Why? The francesinha is one of the most over-the-top and absurd sandwiches on the planet. So, what is it?

A francesinha is a sandwich that originated in the city of Porto by an immigrant that returned from France and Belgium in the 1950s. He wanted to adapt the famous croque monseuir sandwich to Portuguese tastes. And boy, did he ever.

A francesinha consists of two pieces of white bread stuffed with ham, linguica and chipolata (two types of special Portuguese sausage), steak, and roast pork. On top, the sandwich is covered with melted white cheese, and also with a rich sauce consisting mainly of tomato and beer. Finally, the last addition on most francesinha is a fried egg on top to complete the insanity.

An egg in the hole is a classic combination of an egg fried inside a hole in a slice of bread! This makes for a scrumptious breakfast, of course, but it also can be the base for a really fun sandwich! So here’s how you make it, and how you can put a spin on it.

To make the traditional egg in the hole, take a piece of bread and cut out a hole in the center using a cookie cutter, shot glass, or whatever you have. Heat up butter in a skillet and put the bread into it. Add a little more butter inside the hole and then crack in the egg into the hole. Season with salt and pepper, wait a couple of minutes, and then flip carefully. Cook for another couple of minutes and you’re done!

After you’ve made the classic, you can then use the bread as the base to a number of sandwiches! You can make another classic like a BLT, or go a cheesy route with various cheeses and veggies.

A really cool thing to do is to make the egg in the hole with a burger bun instead of regular bread to mimic the idea of putting a fried egg on top of a patty!
