Whether you know the first thing about measuring or exactly how long a soufflé should stay in the oven before it becomes a souf-flat, the Great British Bake Off has captivated viewers around the globe.
The series has run for 13 seasons and it has had its fair share of flops, but the buoyancy is often kept high thanks to the show’s co-hosts. Since 2020, that role has been filled by comedians Matt Lucas and Noel Fielding. Matt took over from Sandi Toksvig who was in the role for three years, but the time has now come for him to hang up his own apron.
“After three series and 51 episodes, I am cheerfully passing the baguette on to someone else,” the Little Britain star wrote on Twitter. “I wish whomever takes over all the very best and I can’t wait to tune into the next series without already known who won!”
Matt based his decision on time management, as it became too tricky to balance his role on Bake Off, Fantasy Football League, which he also presents, and his various other projects.
Producers thanked Matt for his work on the series via the show’s official Twitter account: “We’ve loved having Matt Lucas brighten up our Tent for the last three years, especially when laughter and smiles were so much in need. We appreciate everything he’s done for Bake Off, from working in covid bubbles to supporting the bakers.”
