Fruit juices are always a better pick than soda drinks; there is no doubt about that. However, not all fruit juices are actually good for you. Some of them can even be bad.

She Finds magazine recently had a chat with personal trainer & registered dietitian Jesse Feder, who revealed one type of fruit juices you should stay away at all costs. According to Feder, artificially flavored fruit juices should be avoided at all costs due to all the sugar they contain.

“Artificially flavored fruit juices with high amounts of added sugars are the worst for weight gain and blood sugar, “he explains. “These typically include things like fruit punch, lemonade, Hawaiian punch, high-c, and fruit cocktail juices. These fruit juices contain very little fruit, if any at all. “

Feder adds that these types of fruit juices can “spike up” your blood sugar and also cause you to gain weight if you consume them on a frequent basis.

So what should you do instead? Well, Feder says that the juices from freshly squeezed fruits are your best choice if you want refreshment without the downsides. He also recommends keeping the pulp of the fruit inside of the drink, as you’ll get the added benefit of fibers.

So, there you have it. Next time you are in a grocery store, don’t go for that pack of fruit juice. Instead, pick up some oranges, cut them in half, and squeeze them in a glass. Your body will thank you for it.
