Not having a corkscrew usually turns opening a bottle of wine from a happy occasion into one filled with frustration. But that doesn’t have to be the case anymore. There is a simple hack that you can use to safely and efficiently remove the wine cork even without a corkscrew.

How to Open Wine Bottle Without a Corkscrew

As it turns out, you only need a few tools from your garage. In a video posted on TikTok, user @flvshysoundz demonstrated how to open a corked wine bottle using a screw, screwdriver, and a hammer. Don’t worry, it doesn’t include smashing the bottle with a hammer when everything else fails.

The TikToker first puts a screw into the cork using a screwdriver, so the only upper part remains sticking out. Then, they simply pull out the screw alongside the cork with a claw hammer.

“Be careful and don’t yank too hard or drop the bottle or get the wine in your eyes,” @flvshysoundz adds in the video.

While this technique requires a lot of caution, you can’t argue with its efficiency. However, if you don’t have these tools or just don’t want to risk it, you can always just push the cork inside the bottle and live with occasional cork bits in your glass.
