Adding Olive Oil to Your Coffee Isn’t Such a Bad Idea

Olive oil-infused coffee is the hottest new trend in the coffee community. While not a novelty, adding olive oil to coffee has really taken off ever since Starbucks presented its new line of olive oil-infused coffee products called Oleato earlier this year. But while many coffee purists are appalled by the concept of adding olive oil to coffee, the idea isn’t actually as bad as it might sound.

Adding Fat to Coffee is Nothing New

When you add olive oil to your coffee, you are actually introducing fat to it, and this is nothing new. People have been mixing butter in their coffee for a while, and using full-fat milk or heavy cream in your coffee produces a similar effect.

There are Benefits to Olive Oil Coffee

Olive oil comes with lots of obvious benefits on its own, but there is one added benefit when you mix it with coffee. The caffeine from the coffee absorbs the fat, which results in its slower release and provides a longer period of energy to the consumer.

It Tastes Good

Don’t judge it until you try it. The olive oil actually works pretty well with coffee taste-wise. It gives it a rich taste with nutty notes while enhancing the flavor. Some olive oil coffee enthusiasts even claim that it goes down smoother and is sweeter.
