Cooking the Perfect White Rice

You can cook the perfect white rice by following this simple recipe. Say goodbye to undercooked rice, sticky rice, or overcooked rice. Do not uncover your saucepan or stir the rice while it cooks. If it is done and you are not ready to serve it, put a folded towel on the saucepan and place the lid on. This towel absorbs the moisture to prevent overcooking or mushy rice. Make sure the amounts needed are 2 parts liquid to 1 part rice.

What You’ll Need

  • Water
  • Measuring cup
  • Saucepan with firm lid
  • Rice
  • Salt
  • Fork
  • Wooden spoon

A step-by-step guide

Step 1

Boil water, add salt, pour water into a large saucepan with lid, and boil. Add 1 teaspoon salt.

Step 2

Add rice in the boiling water and stir once to separate the rice. Separate the clumps with a wooden spoon and don’t over stir to prevent it from becoming sticky.

Step 3

Cover pot and let boil. Ensure that the lid is tightly fitted and reduce the heat to the lowest. Allow the rice to boil for about eighteen minutes. Remove from heat and let steam for five minutes.

Step 4

Fluff the rice with your fork. Before serving, fluff the rice gently with your fork to separate the clumps. You can now serve your perfect white rice.
