One summer treat that is sure to be a hit at your next outdoor cookout or gathering is a shandy. Do you know a shandy is?
Well, in simple terms, a shandy is a mix of a lemon drink with beer. While it might look weird at first glance, I can promise you that the wheaty, citrusy notes of this summer favorite are refreshing and delicious. Here’s a simple recipe that you can follow in order to make your own at home.
Ingredients
- 1 part beer
We recommend to use a beer with a light character and low hop content. Some of my favorite beer options for a shandy are wheat beers and pilsners. It depends on what sort of flavors you want to dominate the beer part of the recipe.
- 1 part homemade sparkling lemonade
It’s easy to make a batch of sparkling lemonade at home. Just follow whatever recipe you use for lemonade and substitute sparkling water for regular water.
- Ice cubes (optional)
Ice cubes are optional, but it’s essential to drink shandies cold. If not, it’ll be off-putting and unenjoyable.
Instructions
Pour one part beer and one part sparkling lemonade to a pint glass. Stir gently, being careful not to agitate the carbonation in the beverage too much.
Add ice cubes, if desired, and garnish with a lemon slice if you’d like. Enjoy!
