If you have a smelly refrigerator, it can make cooking and eating seem really unappetizing. From leaving fresh produce inside during a lengthy vacation to forgetting about that container of old milk in the back of the fridge, it’s easy to end up with a weird stench inside your appliance.

Fortunately, it isn’t impossible to take care of those pesky smells. Here are some ways to neutralize the unpleasant odors in your fridge.

Use an Overnight Odor Neutralizer

It isn’t always necessary to do a deep fridge cleaning in order to make it stop smelling. In fact, if you have an odor, one of the best first steps is to use an odor absorber such as baking soda or coffee grounds. Leave a plate covered with one of these things in overnight, and you’ll be surprised at how much it’ll help.

Wipe and Wash Everything

Be sure to give everything a thorough cleaning if you have persistent smells. Bacteria and other odor-causing particles can persist if you don’t clean your fridge (all parts!) regularly.

Air it Out

Sometimes, getting rid of smells is as simple as letting a closed space “air out.” Leave your fridge open overnight to let the smell dissipate.
