In a perfect world, there would be one bun for each hot dog. But in reality, that isn’t the case. We are often stuck with a fridge full of hot dog sausages and no buns to pair them with. One way to deal with this issue is to run to the store and buy some more buns. Other is to get creative with hot dogs. Hot dog sausages can be a surprisingly great addition to many meals. Don’t believe us, check out these cool ideas on how to use hot dogs when you are out of buns.

Going Green

If you are set on having the proper hot dog experience, then go for a “veggie bun” and wrap the hot dog sausage in a piece of lettuce. You will be able to load it with all your favorite condiments while also convincing yourself that you are eating healthy.

Hot Dog Tacos

Okay, you don’t like the idea about the “veggie bun.” But you’ll definitely love this one. Cook the hot dog the way you do, and then use a taco shell as your crunchy bun. If you don’t have taco tortillas, the ones for burritos will do as well.

Hot Dog Salad

You might say hot dogs don’t go in the salads, but to that, we say hot dogs can definitely be a salad ingredient—you just have to pick the right one. Our favorite is Chicago-style hot dog salad. You cook the hot dog sausage, slice it to bits, and then toss it into a bowl with shredded cabbage, mixed greens, onions, tomatoes, and hot peppers. Drizzle everything with honey mustard, and you got yourself a Chicago hot dog in a bowl.

Hot Dog Rice

Hot dogs and fried rice are best friends when paired together in a meal. They complement each other perfectly and result in an exciting meal compared to boring plain rice.

Hot Dog Mac and Cheese

You thought that mac and cheese couldn’t get any better? Well, you obviously didn’t meet hot dog mac and cheese. This loaded dish will open your eyes and introduce your taste buds to flavors you didn’t think are possible.

Hot Dogs and Spaghetti

This is a classic. Just cut the hot dogs into four equal pieces and thread few spaghetti strands through them. Cook the spaghetti and hot dog fusion the way you would cook your preferred pasta and watch your kids (and adults) clean the entire plate.
