A mallet is a useful tool for some people, because it’s perfect for tenderizing and flattening meat, but it can also be used to break up hard ingredients and do other various tasks.

However, if you don’t often cook meat and find no use for a mallet, you don’t have to run out any buy one the next time you need it! Instead, use one of these alternatives that you surely have in your kitchen.

Rolling Pin

A rolling pin will do the job of a kitchen mallet just fine. Use it in a hitting motion instead of a rolling motion because you won’t be very successful if you try to roll out your meat. Also, make sure that you have a piece of plastic wrap or wax paper between the meet and the rolling pin, which will make everything cleaner, more sanitary, and more even.

Pan

If you aren’t a big baker and don’t have a rolling pin, there’s still hope! You can actually just use any pan and that will do the job of getting your meat tender and as thin as you want. If you have a heavy pan that would work best, and if not, you will just have to work a little harder.
